The loss of preload is due to the tab washer compressing. The tab washer locks the nut in place so it doesn't turn. Using loctite instead of molybdenum disulfide on the threads would result in insufficient clamping load on the pulley.

My 2 cents.[/QUOTE] Only a big reason I bought this bike was the Heal/ Toe shifter. I can use my Snow boots to shift and ride. Yup, Screwed mine up that way. Total tranny rebuild ( Under extended Warrantee) Saved My a$$, big time. I took out the 2nd gear, Dealer said he had another one with 3rd gear jumping out. While waiting for parts I sent My 2nd gear and dog to Racnray ( a member here that runs a cycle shop, and has owned a 1700) I had him under cut 2nd gear and dog to better mesh. Something he told me was surprising = my 2016 had beefier gears than the last 2009 he had previously worked on. So Improvements have been subtly made and we did not know. ( worthless tid bit but I found it interesting, and seems they may have known this after some time)
