That is a drain hole from sparkplug tube. Remove spark plug and use rear axle nut to remove sleeve. You could have a cam chain hitting it.

Camchain tensioner extensions installed long ago, bike has about 71k miles. Could there be that much slack in cam chain? Besides a new spark plug sleeve and O rings what is the fix?

I fitted the extenders at about 35,000m, and by less than 80,000, the chains were totally shot, and ready to jump a tooth, or break. I have heard of people getting many more miles than that, but it depends on how, and where, you ride. Much gear changing, and hard accelerating, on twisting English country back roads, stretches the chain far more, than just cruising along wide open American roads. Dont assume that the extender fix will last forever. It wont. I fitted new chains without stripping the engine down, but it does have to come out of the frame to do it. A full days work for 2 people.

So if I can figure out how to remove the spark plug tube, I can check to see if it has a hole in it. Replace if it does. If it does not have a hole in it then I can replace the O rings on either end and check to see if problem solved? Ive not removed the plug to look in the tube yet but would oil be visible or does it need to be under pressure?

You wont see anything until you take the tube out, It's pretty deep in there. If it has a hole in it, just plug it from the inside, with some JB weld. Do not do it on the outside. You don't want bits coming off into the engine. I have had mine out several times, and still used the old seals.

lock 2 nuts together, on the end of a 27mm bolt. Grind the head of the bolt flat. So it fits snug in the recess. Then wind it out with a spanner on the nuts.

If I could find 27mm nut/bolt that would work. Is that tube in there pretty tight?

That's what i just said mate And yes, they can be very tight, as they have probably never been out before. Grind the head of the bolt, so it's a real good fit. If it slips, it will round the soft Aluminium tube, and then you will have problems.

A local hardware store, or engineers workshop, should have what you need. Take the bike, so you can try it for size
