Miles before major repairs

Many posts ago someone had asked how many miles some of us had on our Nads. I was impressed on how many hi milers we had.

I was wondering how many miles any of you put on before you had to repair (not maintain) anything significant (over $300 with labor)? And what was the repair?

I only have about 6000 miles so far and no issues yet (knocking on wood).

Miles before major repairs

A bit over 12,000 on mine, the service records I have from the previous owner show no major repairs. Added the Vance & Hines, that's about it. Runs like a top!

Miles before major repairs

I'm not good at using the search feature on this site (Wolfman?) but sometime in the last year we had a lengthy thread in the garage titled something like "what's gone wrong with your bike" not certain though.

It didn't necessarily say at what miles it went wrong, though some did put the miles I would assume. There was a lot of info in that thread.

For my 99 I had a lot go wrong, don't remember the miles.

My 2006, bought new in 2007, has had clutch issues. Two time needing new plates and springs at 4,000 mile intervals, fixed on my dime. Then I was successful in getting it warrantied and they replaced every damn thing in the clutch including the master cylinder on the bars.

At 10,000 miles the button to cycle the functions on the odometer readout went bad and would only sporadically change the function. It will get warrantied next time I go in.

17000 miles and not a dime spent on repairs. A set of tires and routine maintenance, yes.

Miles before major repairs

Here is an old post from a year ago. But it would be nice to hear updates and from members that are new since then.

So, just how much exactly is overfilling?

It seems that filling it according to the manual with the bike standing level overfills it. The most preferred method given by several on here is to fill it either on the side stand or with a two or three inch block of wood under the side stand.

Miles before major repairs

I turned 52,000 miles earlier this week and no repairs other than My V&H pipe cracked. And other than a clutch spring, just routine maintenance so far.

Rick,
Honestly, in your opinion, how was the transition? Many still look at HD as the standard and everything else is a knock-off. I love my Nomad, but I am interested in hearing what things you noticed when going from the Road King to the Nomad.

At 49,000 my rear shocks started leaking oil. And now at 54,000 my 3rd member's front seal has started leaking. Parts are on order to repair it. My extended warranty has covered both repairs.
