Dallas Motorcycle Cop killed in accident

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont....196e2bd6.html

Check out this story and especially the pictures near the middle of the page. It happened yesterday as the Hilliary Clinton motorcade was headed to a rally. Just shows you that even the pros can make fatal mistakes.

Ride safe everyone.

A buddy of mine is a motor officer. He is the only one in the division who hasn't been to the hospital. Being a motor cop is very dangerous.

Besides this case, there were 3 deaths of motorcycle officers escorting presidential motorcades in the last two years. While in D.C. recently I observed a Presidential motorcade cruising down Pennsylvania Avenue at about 55mph. The lead motorcycle cops cruised through the red lights holding up a hand to stop traffic at the intersections as they continued to lead the motorcade. It looked very dangerous for them. There was no major national security crisis that day, so I guess this was standard operating procedure.

I spoke to our senior motor officer / police riding instructor. He told me that it was a very sad and tragic situation. The officer was a veteran but had little experience on a police motorcycle. I learned that he had only been assigned to the m/c unit for about 1 month. His training was accelerated and he was hurried into street duties to support the escort(s). My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends.

He was coming around from the rear of the motorcade and hit a curb. He was launched and his helmet came off. Pronounced dead at the hospital. The article goes into much more detail, but that's the bare minimum of the story.

Dallas Motorcycle Cop killed in accident

I had a police friend who had been riding for one 40 years do the same thing. He hit a curb while doing a funeral run. He stayed in the hospital for months. He lost the sight and hearing on the left side from brain damage. He had to retire because of that.
I myself have been riding over 45 years and had a bad wreck a few years ago. (Wasn't my fault)
I do get a laugh out of any cop who rides bikes... they seem to think they are experts at handling a motorcycle.
I guess they are, for the most part too stupid to realize taking a motorcycle course doesn't make you an expert, it means you took a motorcycle course.
Experience and age will out do a 2 week course anytime!!
