Helmet Law Repeal

I just read in our local newspaper that there is a movement afoot in the Louisiana legislature to repeal ( for those over 18 )the mandatory motorcycle helmet law now in place. This movement has the blessing of our new governor, and the speaker of the House. If this happens, it will mark the second time such a law has been instated, then later repealed with a new administration.
I understand both sides. I understand the views of those who choose not to wear a helmet, but from a safety stand point, I will choose to always wear a helmet. That's my personal choice. I am; however, concerned that without such a law, motorcycle insurance rates in the state will increase. What are your thoughts ?

I think it's a pretty safe bet that with the Governor and Speaker of the Hosue supporting this bill.... it'll pass.

Synthetic with a 1k resistor and 41.5lbs of air pressure.

Ok, seriously on this topic. I dont agree with helmet or seatbelt laws, but I personally use both MOST of the time.

Helmet laws and seatbelt laws don't bother me at all. I would use a seatbelt in my truck and car and wear a helmet on my bike anyway.
If it is going to make me safer, I'm for it. If I'm for it EVERYONE should be made to agree with me and follow my example ;)

I don't know if insurance will be an issue. I live in Wisconsin (no helmet law) and my insurance was much cheaper than I saw in the post about insurance quotes here on the forum. I think the price of insurance will depend on the amount of time you are able to ride in a year.

Yeah, you're right. That probably is the biggest factor in premiums. I was thinking more in terms of riding without safety gear might play into it, but how do they know what you wear ?when you ride?

Thats great news if it goes through and passes. It should be a personal choice. There are a lot of things that can cause injuries in our day to day activities, sports, riding in a convertible, climbing a ladder etc, all pose dangers at certain times. Let us decide how we deal with it.
