White Wall Tires

Seeing a lot of nice Nomads running around with White Wall tires. As soon as my Metz 180/70/16 is worn out I'll be switching to WWW front and back. Recommendations on brands/size? I did find a Dunlop D407 Touring for the big HD bikes with Wide White Walls that are close to my size. Any one have experience with these?

Tried to put this under the Wheels and Tires but couldn't find a "New Thread" link in that section.

WWW are very limited in selection, I tried the ME880's and won't use them anymore.
Im currently using the Dunlop D404's on the front, and I had a Dunlop Cruisemax on the rear. I liked the Dunlops a lot.
I recently switched to a car tire on the rear, I wish it came in WWW.

The Tech boards are just a read only area, and are updated as revelant information comes available.

Good call! But it is a love/hate thing. I love the look but hate the maintenance. They are a pain to keep clean. :-/

I don't find it too bad to keep clean, I use Spray9 and a scrub brush, then rinse off. The back wheel got neglected a little more often since the bags should come off to get at the wheel properly.

Hey Ring and Darrell,

On average how often do you need to clean them? Every ride? every XXX miles?

One thing I love about Nomads is hardly any maintenance, pretty much just fluids. mine is stock and I don't spend time tinkering with it.

If I had more time I would have fun with the mods but that does not work for my lifestyle right now.

I have always liked the WWW look but I don't have alot of extra time to clean them . Thanks

I usually clean them every couple weeks, but that sometimes varies if you have been riding dirt roads or in the rain. If they get neglected for a while there is more scrubbing involved with removing brake dust and road grime. If you stay on top of them I don't find it that much work, a few minutes brings them back. The front tire is easy to clean since you can get at 3/4 of it, then back the bike up a couple feet and clean the last bit. I found through trial and error that some cleaning products work a lot better than others on the whitewalls. Thats way Ive been using Spray Nine or a good citrus cleaner. Carwash soap doesn't do much to clean them.

I think I can put up with the cleaning for the look, that may change after I get them. Just need to find a rear tire as big as the 180 (7") I'm running now, like the wider tire on the back. I'll take a look at the Dunlops and stock up on Spray9 cleaner.

Im not sure there is a rear WWW available that is wider than a 150/80/16, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, the front is easy. The back can be a bit of a pain for sure. Too much to work around there.
I've found that SOS pads really make them gleam! And like Ring, I usually do them every couple of weeks.

I thought Dunlop D404 made the rear in WWW. Which Cruisemax did you use 150/80/16? I got a nail in my tire and plugged it. Not wild about riding on a plug so I may switch to the WWW. I already did one 300 mile trip on the plug and guess I will do the trip again this weekend on it. I wonder how long my luck will hold out?

Both of my Dunlops were WWW, 150/80/16's. I would ride on a plugged tire myself, chances are the tire will wear out before it leaks. Ive worn out a few truck tires like that.

Zoom, shouldn't be any worries with the plug. I had a '03 Suzuki Bandit with a plugged rear tire. Rode it like that for about a year. Never had a problem with it and never lost any pressure. I wore that tire out with the plug in it.

My Suzuki C50T had WWW tires on it. It gets very dusty where I live and ride and they were a PITA to keep clean. I vowed I'd never have WWW tires again.
