Avon Cobras - First Impressions

Had my new Avon Cobras installed on Saturday and got the chance to go for a short ride today. I only have about 50 kms or so on them, but my first impression is WOW! You guys are right these tires are quiet and feel incredibly different than the old stock Bridgestones. I didn't think there could be as much of a difference as some folks have said, but you were right. To me it feels like along with putting on new tires I upgraded my suspension system! I can't believe how much better a ride it is with the Cobras. If the tires wear half as well as they ride, I will be one happy camper :-)

Thanks to all those who piped in when I asked about tires, you certainly didn't steer me in the wrong direction.

Glad to hear you're happy with the Avons. I'm on my second rear Cobra, and I'll be replacing both front and rear this summer. I've been very pleased with them.

I recently replaced my Bridgestones with the Avon radials, front and rear. Very happy with them.

I'm on my third set of Avon Cobras....I love'em. I keep the PSI in them pretty high (a tip about them I picked up somewhere... ;))....50 in the rear and 43 in the front. I got over 12k out of both of my first two sets!

Norske,

Keeping the psi that high on rear, you don't find yourself wearing out the middle of the treads to fast?

Seems like that high a pressure would wear the center of tire pretty fast. I keep 40 in the front and 41 in the rear of my Dunlop Elite 3's.

Somebody made a post here a very long time ago about the Cobras and said he actually contacted the company about optimal tire pressures for the conditions he rode (ie: load, etc.). He said in his post that those were the quoted pressures. It seems high I know and I too was unsure but thought I would give it a try. It works great and I don't notice any real difference other than the ride itself can seem a bit stiffer....but two-up you don't even notice. Like I said, this is my third set and I've ran those pressures in all of them....and I can't complain with over 12k per set... .

BTW....I might add that there was still tread left when I changed them, but 90% of all tire failures happen in the last 10% of tread wear....so don't push it fellas.

I was thinking about going to a car tire but with the mileage I got out of my rear cobra (14,500) I decided to ordered another. I plan on putting another 500 miles on before I change it out.
