Fuel management
Looking for pro and cons on a Cobra versus power commander system. I am presently have a power commander III USB and cant seem to get a good map for good fuel mileage. Would a cobra Fi2000 r be easier to work with ?

I've been running the Cobra FI for 5 years now. I have no experience with the others.
For me the FI2000 is simple to use. MT

The Power Commander is about the most sophisticated fuel processor out there. IMO it takes a dyno or allot of trial and error to effectively set it for performance or mileage. Anything else has to be easier to set up in the field.

I have the Cobra and like it but if I was to do it over I would get the Techlusion TFI. From what I've determined over the last few years of posts concerning the two I think the Techlusion probably works better but both are excellent units.
The issue with the Cobra is on some bikes [mine and the instructions say "on some bikes"] the enriching pot does not kick in until around 14 to 1500 rpm. So, it does not help much with the low idle bounce and stumble that a lot of Nomads have due to being to lean at idle. Otherwise it works great I just have to keep my idle rpm around 1100 to prevent the dreaded stumble when the throttle is dropped quickly with the clutch pulled in. The Techlusion TFI has 4 pots instead of 3 and others report that the enriching pot works at idle. |

I had a powercommander on my 1500 mileage went south. I was told to put it on the dyno in order to get it set up properly. I just took it all off and mileage inproved. When I got my new nomad last year I promised myself I would leave everything stock. So far so good. I get in the 52 mpg average. I don't think they make the TFI box any more. However you can still buy them.

I have the Cobra FI2000R and they are simple to use. Probably one of the more simple to put on and use.

I just installed the cobra unit on my bike last week. I haven't messed with the settings yet so really all I can say is its easy to install.

Since you already have the Power Commander Id stick with it, I think its a more adjustable unit that will be able to do more refined adjustments but its not as simple to setup as a Cobra. If you didn't have a processor at all Id probably go with the Cobra.

FWIW, the Power Commander V I installed on my bike was about as simple as it gets. The ECU is under the seat, disconnect the ECU cable, connect one side of the PCV to the ECU and plug the ECU harness into the other side of the PCV.
There are dozens of maps available for the HD's, I remember just a handful for the Nomad.

I think he must be Kilometers per gallon, not miles per gallon.
