need info

I looked at an 05 Nomad with low mileage and was wondering, since this was the first year of the 1600cc motor, was there any inherent problems with this year Nomad?
TIA

I've not seen anything mentioned about a problem with the new 1600 engine. I say go for it if the price is right.

The 1600 made it's debut in 2003 not 2005. Yes it was first available in the classic, but it is the same mill as in the Nomad. Want to come and look at one? I have the one I put in my Nomad in the warehouse along with most of the original 1500.

It has the same issues as the 1500, shitty trans shifting mechanism.

All the trans parts interchange.

I had an 05 1600 Classic I bought new & put 40K mi on before I traded it for the Nomad. My experience was great! Rock solid motor & I didn't have any trans issues either. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 1600.

Only problem with the 05's is that they were blue and silver or black and silver, as opposed to the classic green and silver of the 06's, which of course were the golden age of Nomads: faster, more elegant...the apex of the design. But the 05's are decent, only one year off.

The clutch spring and that push rod seal seem to be the only issues with the 1600's,that I can think of, and thats such a minor thing it can hardly be called a problem.

No Lar, I am lookin for me. Mine has 72,000 miles on it and if I can find a low mileage 1600 I would buy it and sell mine.
I was lookin for an 08 as I hate going backwards when purchasing vehicles but this 05 looks to be a good deal.

MAS, you said "It has the same issues as the 1500, shitty trans shifting mechanism".
Are you talkin about the 04's or all the Nomad 1600's?

I've got an '06 and it's {"fastest blk"} And I haven't had any of the problems some have talked about. {trans, shifting mechanism} ???
I did change out the clutch spring to a Barnett but that was just something I wanted to do. There wasn't an issue with shifting or anything.

TC, my bike is an '05 manufactured December 4, 2004, and I bought in March '05 new . And, although it is the first year of the 1600 Nomad, it is made on the 1600 Classic which has been around since 2003 sooo it is an already proven bike. I only have just under 50,000 miles on it, and the only thing that I've had to do was install the cam chain extenders. I'm still running the factory clutch spring (and I'm one of those that always sits holding the clutch in at stops). I think that has a lot to do with what you call "over-maintenance. It has been a great bike, beautiful color, and runs even better than it did new (talking about the TFI, V&H exhaust, and Thunder stealth intake, and don't forget the CT) . It's the same bike you have, just a different color, so if you want another Nomad, just look at the mileage, not the year model.
