Pissed Tire

I had my 2011 1700 nomad in for for service yesterday, a little late it was due at 6000 miles and a had 6800 miles on it. I was shocked when they told me I needed a new back tire and that the wear bars were showing. Anyone getting better wear on a different tire or am I to expect this every 7000 miles.

you can double that mileage with 160/80-16 dunlop E-3 bias rear tire.7000 miles is about all you can expect from the stock bridgestone excedra tires.they are pretty much the worse coice.

I am ridding on Dunlop E 3 bias. The rear has 11,500 miles and it is good for 5 K more.

Something is not right there. Anyway, I'd recommend a set of Avon Cobra.

I have 150/80 R16 (Front) and 180/70 R16 (Rear) on my '08 Nomad.

I've still got the stockers on my Vaquero with just under 8000 miles and still have plenty of wear left.

I would go with the Dunlop or Avons. I ride on Dunlop and have 10,000 on the rear and 9,000 on the front. Both tires still look great. I expect to get at least 15,000 miles out of them.

I've got what I think is the 2nd tire on the back of my bike (16k miles). I can get another 4k miles (or until it dry rots in my case) out of it before I'd feel really uncomfortable. I'll still swap it out in the next few hundred miles (for me that would equal about 6 months if you include 3 months of winter) for a CT/Avon.

Must be all that throttle twisting is prematurely wearing your tires out.
Try another brand, and less burn outs.

Gerry the last time I did a burn out was in the fire pit in the back yard. It's the only place I can do that, however it requires a permit.lol

I got 40,000km(24000mi) out of my front tire until I changed it in the spring and so far 8000km(4800mi) on my rear tire since the spring. They were replaced by the bridgestone excedra (OEM). No issues so far.

Like fuel mileage, lots of things affect tire wear. - Acceleration, Braking, Road Surface, Air Pressure, Load - I think it's a good idea to get opinions from other riders for a general idea of the "best" tire. My experience with the Elite-3 has always been good.

I've never had good mileage out of the stock bridgestones on any of my vulcans, usually switch to metzlers at first tire change and get around 12,000 out of those on rear. I'm probably going to try the new michelin commander 2 when I put tires on the vaquero. They claim to get around 20,000 on the rear tire.

Just had my 2011 vaquero inspected yesterday. I currntly have 7,100 miles on it. I told the tech doing the inspection, i expected to get another 1K-1.5K out of the rear OEM bridgestone. He disagreed and said nore like 2K!!!

I realize this isn't 12-15K like some folks are getting on other brands, but not bad i think. I rarely use the engine, tranny to decelerate and the tech agreed that this is also a major way to have tires last longer.

I'll try to get out and post pics of tire this weekend.

I'm not sure how that would matter. You're putting braking forces on the rear wheel either with the motor or the brakes. I'll bet I can put more braking forces on the wheel/tire with the brakes than the motor ever will.
