RACNRAY's Throthle Mod Believer!!!

So the Kuryakin ISO grips from Ray and the mod came in today...I'm a believer!

I know some say they don't feel any difference, but I DO! The bike is so much more responsive without that godawful stock lag, and the grips feel soo nice to boot.

THANK YOU, RAY!!!!

The directions were so easy to follow that I didn't get stuck once.

Like I mentioned, I ride a 2006 Anniversary edition R1 too and the response is similar to the R1 (of course it doesn't go 0-100 in 5 seconds like it). BUT, I can feel more control on the way it rides.

There was a small 1/2" by 1/2" black plastic piece that I found on the ground that makes me wonder if it fell from the throthle assembly without me noticing, but everything seemed to go in the like it's supposed to and the test ride went perfect, so I'll need to see where it came from. I was also working on the R1, so maybe it's from there too...we'll find out I guess

Well, if it fell off, it didn't want to be where it was
Took it for another ride today and it's doing fine, so maybe it was part of something else. It's funny how riding a big bagger make my slow riding skills on the sport bike much better

The part you found on the floor comes with the Kury grips. That part is a universal part that fits 1" bars... Some of them need that spacer because the grip on the left is longer than the amount of bar extinding out for it. You do not need it for the Vaq bars...

Are you referring to the tubular part which contained the glue? Because that is not the part I'm referring to. Perhaps I'll take a picture tomorrow and post up so that maybe someone will recognize it.
I appreciate all your help in figuring out this small puzzle. Thank you.

Not sure if it was with the glue or not. It was just a 1" dia piece of black plastic tubing... I did not get mine from Ray, but from a local bike shop... I also had a set on the Honda I had before this and it came with the same part... When I removed my grips on the Vaq there really is nothing that could be removed from the throtle side that I remember. I do remember that the left side was a huge pain in the ass to remove the stock grip!

Think of it as "lifting weights". Once you do it enough, anything light is just a breeze to handle.

I noticed the difference too!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Hubby rode it around after changing the oil last weekend WITHOUT me around....that meant he dogged it!!!!!

However, he came back SO IMPRESSED with the repsonse and speed. He said at one point he almost came off the back of the seat when he shifted into second gear!!!!!
He told me my bike goes from 0 to 60 SUPER FAST!!!!!

I got Ray's mod on my Nomad 1600 w Avon grips. The avon grips are a huge improvement and put them on my 1500a too. Ray's mod did what Ray said. It wasn't as big a difference as on a 1700 but it made the throttle more responsive and much smoother at slower speeds. Between the grips and the mod it was definitely money well spent

That black cup thing comes with the Kury grips and (in my directions) it said it was for some bars that are shorter a bit in length for the slightly longer Kury Grips.

BTW when anyone put Ray's mod on a 1700 did they notice a pre-ignition knock when they blip the throttle from an idle ?

My 2011 Nomad has much better throttle response with Rays mod but from an idle I can't blip the throttle or it's like the ECM can't deal with Ray's mod and I get a knock. Before Ray's mod and I blipped from idle it basically did nothing, just like I never even turned the throttle. So the mod is an improvement. I'm hoping when I put a PCV (with ignition advance) on I can cure this pre knock.

Thumbs Up Rays throttle mod

thanks for master bike mechanic ray! just picked my avons with mod today, and are every thing he said they would be.as for the sceptical, the dyno results are right on.with my V\H pipes PC V thunder tornado air kit,my vaquero loves mid and hi rpm/s.now with Rays mod it completed the power package giving the low end the needed rush. if you dont do any of these mods, the throttle mod is still the best thing that can be done to these bikes.looking forward to any other expertise you provide for us Racn/Ray.
