Cruise control

Not sure what kind of grief I might get here, but here goes. I have a 1700 Classic, not a bagger, but my question is what difference is there that I can not take the cruise control from a bagger and install on my classic? I have talked to a few techs, but no one has an answer. Any one know a goto person in Kawasaki?

Just shooting from the hip here, but you would need the electronics 'pod' and probably the bagger ECU (computer). You have the electronic throttle, but need the controls in the ECU. According to Bike Bandit the ECU's are different. So the ECU, chassis harness and pod assembly, plus all of the labor....not worth it IMHO!

I think that would be a lot of work since you would need all the wiring as well from a donor bike. It would be a lot easier to install an aftermarket cruise control such as the Audiovox unit.

Isn't the 1700s TbW? That might be tricky. Just buy a Nomad instead.

I don't think that would matter Jim, the butterfly would be held in position by a cable from the CC unit, and the servo motor would be used in place of a vacum cannister.

Should have bought a Nomad, Vaquero or Voyager if you wanted cruise control.

If your not set on a true cruise control or don't want to modify or go aftermarket, I can recommend Coolsac's throttle lock and grips. I've had mine on for more than 4 years... Lasted well, looks good, unobtrusive and works.

On my raider i had a throttle lock called throttle meister fits in the end of the throttle grip and you set the speed you want and just roll the lock on with your little finger. Worked great can adjust the throttle very easy and it will disengage by your little finger or just roll the throttle to closed position. If i ever have a bike without elec crusie control I will go back to the throttle meister you can adjust the throttle easily for up hill and down hill operation. I think kuryakyn makes a similar one for less money I think its called the throttle assist or throttle boss.

Here's an review on a product I used last summer while riding out to Maine. I think it's similar to what BC may be referring to and is obviously not a cruise control, but it worked great.

I used the Vista Cruise throttle lock on my Nomad much more than I use the cruise control on my Voyager.
