Intersting Ride

Really got out and had a ride today. It's been awhile. Travelled about 250 miles but the Mojave N.M. was especially sweet. I thought I would stop at the Kelso Station to take a picture of a train i passed on the way down.. The tracks run parallel to the road. You have to know I had to pee pretty bad and was reminded immediately upon arrival by the barricaed parking lot entrance that the Govt. shutdown was in progress.

Now I needed gas and to pee. 40 miles to Baker, CA and I accomplished both. Now the intersting part. I started back On I15 and exited at the Cimo, CA exit. Cimo is in Mojave N.P.. I'm cruising down the road to Cima, I should add I have not seen another vehicle in the N.M. (over 100 miles) and I come upon a Park service vehicle who pulls over and lets me go by. Maybe it was the modulating headlight but that's another thread.

About another 10 miles down the road I'm coming to the WW I Vererans Memorial with the infamous white cross on public land (which has been reinstated) and I see far ahead what seems to be a roadblock. I'm downshifting, slowing down and I see people running back and forth across the road with in fact a P/U truck blocking my side of the road.

As I get closer the people seem to get organized and the LH side of the road is open. I'm going real slow now and they are waving me by on the LH side, cheering and clapping for what I can only think is my act of civil disobediance for invading a closed Federal N.M.. At least that's what I gathered from the fleeting glimps of anti-Govt. signs.

This group looked like a 60s anti-war rally. Paint your own picture. Funny, maybe the lines are blurring and common ground is in sight. Great ride nonetheless. This bike really likes COOL air. Once it warms up it runs smooth as silk and throttle response is awesome.

As I was riding past White Sands National Monument last week on the way home from Antlers, I would have liked to stop at the visitor's center and check it out, but alas - the entrance to the parking lot was barricaded. Isn't this one of the reasons we pay income taxes, to preserve certain areas for the public to enjoy?

We pay for the right to have someone tell us what we can and can't do on public land.
Our money becomes theirs and they don't thank us. They are laughing at us.

Be nice if those boneheads in Washington worked for us instead of for their precious party. They could care less about the country and the citizens. We pay them a small fortune and they do nothing for us.

All of the paved roads in MNP are State of CA roads and maintanied by the State not the Park. If the Park is trying to close those roads the State should be raising hell.
