2009 Voyager

I am looking seriously at a 2009 Voyager, silver and black, dime-sized ding on gas tank but otherwise fairly clean. Has some nice additions, like a new seat (Ultimate, I believe) and risers. However, dealer said PO had Vance Hines pipes (or Cobra) but put the stock pipes back on. My first question is whether or not there SHOULD have been a tweak/adjustment to anything when the pipes were swapped out. If so, how can I tell for certain if it was done?

Also, the audio sounds very muddy on the radio.

The bike has only 8700 miles on it which is very little for a 2009. The paint is not as nice as my 2007 Nomad...but it feels AWESOME when I sit on it. I rode it through the parking lot and the comfort was far better than mine. Before buying I will take it on a hour test ride.

Any recommendations on things to look for?

Thanks,

Jim

There was a recall on the Kawasaki 1700 engines for the 2009-2010 models for the ECU. It may ort may not have been taken care of. If it wasn't Kawasaki will take care of it free. The issue causes the bike to die at slow speed and the bike can't be restarted until it is stopped and the ignition switch is turned off and back on. I had the issue on my 2010 Nomad and Kawasaki took care of the problem. You can check to see if the recall was taken care of by entering the VIN on the Kawasaki site.

It is not necessary to do any "tweaks" if you are just changing exhaust, if you alter the air delivery is when you need a fuel controller, if the bike has one it should be located under the seat or in the close proximity, if it is just pipes more than likely nothing has been done, other than maybe blocking the pair valves, and if he took the time to swap out the pipes he would have probably remove the fuel controller as well. JMO I would have.

Ride it on a hot day if you can. 09's don't have the KAMS to control the heat. If it is really needed is up to the individual rider and their tolerance for heat.
