Rattle on hard acceleration

Any one have this issue? If I accelerate at a faster rate I am getting a metal rattle which sounds like it is coming from the solenoid area. I checked everything and removed the cover and all looks fine. I than started doing more exploration, clamps. header etc. and found nothing. If I do a nice gradual acceleration I hear nothing. But on a hard acceleration or if I am in fourth gear and accelerate to fifth quickly I will get this noise.

Head light bucket, rad cowling, speedo bezel, keys in ignition, and as you mentioned exhaust clamps or heat shields all have been found on here to be the cause of rattles and buzzing vibration noises. I once had a head scratcher buzzing rattle at high speed and as I moved my head around and down trying to pin point the general area where it came from the noise changed or went away. Took a few days of looking for the "Duh" moment. The sun visor snaps on my helmet were rattling! I could have sworn it was coming from the bike.

Might be a rattle but sounds like a perfect description of engine clatter from low octane fuel. Do you have a tuner on the bike and what octane fuel are you running?

As stated above it sounds like pinging the way you describe the noise.
My 05 Nomad had the symptoms you describe.
A Dobeck (fuel processor was the cure. I also added Chucksters intake at the same time. Big difference in performance, the engine ran cooler, and no more pinging.

Extremely common on the 1600's. Mine did it, I think everyone's does it. Yea, its pinging. The only fix is a fuel processor.

Thanks Guys. I thought of the pinging too and read a lot on here about fuel grade etc. I run a cobra processor with stock intake and run 89 grade fuel. I did the intake mod on this bike and ran it a bit but did not feel any real gain in performance and the intake noise pfff...pfff sound was not appealing to me.

I will re look at the fuel processor and adjust the second pod for the roll on and see if this will help. Like I said it is a very metallic vibrating sound. Not sure it is engine ping but I could be wrong.

It could be the shroud in front of the radiator rattling.

But my first thought is pinging.

I will take another look at that. Any suggestions on the pinging other than intake

What is your Cobra set at currently? It sounds like you're pinging under load.

You mentioned earlier that you didn't notice any improvement with the air filter mod... That doesn't sound right to me. My first right side air cleaner was just a Mr. Gasket chrome kit that fit right on my stock backplate. That alone made a difference. I just recently changed it out for the Baron's Big Air Kit & it made even more of a difference.

Check your exhaust heat shields for loose clamps.

Yup!
Had the same issue with my '09 Voyager, turned out to be 2 missing screws in that right side aircleaner cover. Sounded just like a conn rod bearing!

My guess is the heat shield on the rear head vibrating on the lower exhaust shield. Check it by putting a thick piece of cardboard between them and getting on the throttle. My V&H was making a rattling sound and I had to readjust them.

Or the bolts that hold your baffles in if you have aftermarket exhaust.

Recently swapped over to a half helmet from full and now notice a bit of a rattle that sounds like a loose baffle or heat shield, but could be pinging? No idea, ain't had time to investigate. I know it's not loud enough to notice wearing a full face, so I'm not too concerned yet lol.

Sounds like pinging. I had a Cobra fuel processor on my 08 Nomad never could stop the pinging. I removed the Cobra and installed a Dobeck TFI and followed macmac's instructions on adjusting it. It stopped the pinging I had to run premium gas though.

here is a link to the adjustment instructions.

Try running some premium fuel in it for a tank and see if that makes a difference.
