Dumb and Dumber

Well, found a new brilliant idea from Kawi...the helmet locks. Never used them before and really never gave them much thought. Went to hook mine up, dangling off the right side and realized that the helmet and strap were resting on the hot exhaust pipe. Now, I've seen dumb engineering but this is dumb. Why in the world would you put the lock in a position such that the plastic helmet rests on or touches the hot exhaust? That's at least as dumb as the oil sight glass nearly under the bike or the earlier ignition keys that you had to hang sideways off the bike to reach. I know, I know, there are solutions to these idiot designs, but you'd think someone with the tiniest bit of sense would not have made such bonehead moves in the first place. I continue not to get it.

Maybe you should have looked the bike over a bit closer before you bought it ?

Same on the Nomad 1700, you need to nearly lay on the road to use them. I use a flexible plastic covered bike lock to secure both helmets to the luggage rack or sissy bar

I carry my helmet so it absorbs air conditioning in the summer, and heat in the winter. Plus, the helmet let's people know why I am wearing the motorcycle gear.

At least you can get to it. On my C90, you had to take the saddlebag off to get to it.

Carry my helmet into work too, for the exact same reason.

Not the best location but if you put the passenger foot rest down, your helmet or strap will not dangle near the exhaust.

Put the floorboard down and sit the helmet on it.If it looks like it might start pissing down with rain,turn it over.Experience taught me that.

Why are you using a plastic helmet on a motorbike ? Keep that for your skateboard.
The oil sight glass is at the bottom of the engine for a good reason,that is where the oil is.
I do agree with you about the ignition key though,that can be a right work up in the dark.

Yah, and I don't see them getting any smarter. They continue to go out of their way to annoy the world with their degrees. There are two helmet "LOCKS" on the Vaquero. They are more like hooks. You have to remove the seat, hook the helmet strap on the hook then replace the seat.

I can't imagine what they were thinking.

I moved mine up to the front of the bike. One on each side of the forks, mounted by replacing one of the screws on each of the lower wind deflectors with the locks. Works well, out of the way, and easy to get to.

You must live in a nice place mate.But its not difficult to wander,unintentionally,into a cesspitt of arseholes,who would steal the face off a clock.In such places,where you might feel the need to carry a gun, you might also find your helmet lock usefull.

They are more likely to take the bike and the helmet in the U.K.
I had my bike stolen from outside a pub in the U.K.
When they realised it was a Triumph they left it about 3 miles away.

There was no helmet locks or sight glass on that bike.
If it ran you rode it. If it did not run you fixed it.

That is certainly the case oop north now.The immigrants are stealing bikes/cars/caravans ect,and raping grannies on an alarming scale.Thats why us soft Southeners dont go anywhere near the place.You were smart to get out when you did mate.
