Need help removing alternator rotor on 1600 Nomad

I need to replace the inner stator which means the Alternator Rotor needs to be removed.

I am following the Kawi manual which says use special tool# 57001-1410. That is supposed to hold the rotor while removing the 17mm rotor bolt. OK I don't have that special tool.

What have others done and how did you remove and re-install that bolt to 58 ft lbs? Which direction does the bolt loosen and tighten?

I turned the back wheel forward a nudge and the rotor turns counter clock wise (same direction) so I am thinking the bolt must loosen clockwise?

Any help getting past this step would be very much appreciated.

well, I have a rather large belt wrench, I tighten down on flywheel and I just hit the bolt with my 3/8s air impact turned down low. The shock loosens the bolt....
Then its just a matter of tapping it a few times with a large plastic tipped hammer, usually slides right off...
Tightens with engine rotation....

Flywheel? Is that the same as the rotor?

Looking at the "left" side of the bike at this large 6 1/4" rotor, is the engine and the alternator rotor rotation counterclockwise? I am not sure what tightens with engine rotation means.

Lefty loosey and righty tighty on the bolt? It's a special bolt that tightens left if that's it.

The bolt is supposed to tighten with 58 ft lbs. Can I hold the strap tight enough to get that?

Put the rear wheel on the ground and with the bike in gear
hit it with an impact or breaker bar.

It’s going to come right off.

Nah not an oddball and I appreciate the help from a talented wrench.

Thanks all, inner stator is a 1st me. I have an air and electric impact gun so I may be half way there.

As before, does the bolt loosen left and tighten right?

I made a wrench out of a 2 x 4, leather belt and a few roofing nails. I made the belt loop overly large to fit the rotor so I could rotate the 2 x 4 with a pipe wrench to tighten the loop against the rotation of the nut.

The rotor itself is just held on by magnetism.

Good luck!

Righty tighty lefty loosey for right hand bolts. The opposite for left hand bolts.

Yes, so my question again, is this rotor bolt a left hand or right hand bolt???

DOES THE ROTOR BOLT TIGHTEN LEFT OR RIGHT????

I have seen very few bolts that tighten left but I don't want to be surprised on this one.

Sorry bub I don't know but when you find out let me know please. Both my stators are done for and I'm getting ready to replace them soon. Once you make that video let us know. I'll ask around some of my shops about the inner statorlet and let you know.

He's is trying to keep from screwing up the bolt or threads I can understand his hesitation. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Yes that's it. I really would like to know.

Loosen left or right. Someone must know.

A lot of folks here, like me, are not experienced mechanics. The manual assumes you are which can lead down a bad hole if you fill in the blanks with mistakes. That's the value of the forum. You can overcome ignorance with information. So there should be no stupid questions. The answers inspire confidence too.

Information:
I got the Rick's Motorsport Electrics 21-219 OEM Inner Stator. I am in Canada so I sourced it through FortNine.

Okay...I went to my manual. IF a bolt is Left Hand threaded, there is a LH by that bolt in the diagram. Example: in the radiator section, there is/are bolts that are LH Threaded. That/they have a LH by the bolt.

So...since there is NO LH anywhere in the rotor/stator diagrams, it is Right hand threaded... Lefty loosen/ Righty tighty. There ya go...it is NOT left hand threaded. Go for it. (Turn left to loosen.) Final Answer.
