Battery question

I tried to start my bike yesterday afternoon to take the grandkids for rides and the bike was completely dead. Pushed it back into the garage and checked the key one more time and found that the neutral light came on very dim. Took the seat off this evening and the battery was down to 4 volts. I will check to see if I have a wiring problem but I'm suspecting a bad battery. My question is whether any one else has experienced a failed battery on a new, 4 month old, bike? Also does Kawi warranty the battery?
Thanks
Idaho

Battery question

It could be a defective battery, or the connections maybe worked loose. This happened to me last season, I just had to tighten them up a bit.

Battery question

I threw the charger on it for a few hours and it seems to be holding at 12 volts. With the engine running the terminal voltage is 13.6 volts so I know that the alternator is working. Tomorrow morning will tell.
Ringadingh, I appreciate the reply. The terminals were tight, I thought of that one too. Was dissappointed to find them tight actually. If the battery is dead in the morning I'm calling the dealer.

Idaho: sure sounds like a defective battery. Cold always gets them first. Good Luck.

Battery question

You could check and see if something is drawing current when the key is off.
Remove the neg battery cable and put one lead of an ammeter the neg battery terminal and the other on the neg battery cable.
See if maybe something is drawing the battery down.

Battery question

I think it might have been a defective me. I recharged the battery, fired up the bike and verified that the alternator works. Rode it to work and elsewhare yesterday and seems to be fine. When I think back on it trying to remember when I backed the bike out of the garage Sunday I don't remember turning the key on but do remember it being dead. Mind plays games at times like this. Now I'm not sure that it wasn't left with the key on. Can I delete this thread? Will you all ignore it from now on? Friends, buddies, fellow Nomads.

As if you're the first one here to say something silly. Don't worry, we've let much worse slide.
