VN1500 sputtering on throttle

Hi,
can anyone give me some pointers on this?

VN1500 2001 Fi Nomad, V&H, K&N filter - all already on when I bought the bike a couple of months ago.
The only history I've got was a receipt in one of the saddlebags from a service a year ago when the bike was in Florida before coming across to the UK so all must have been fine then.

Since I've got it, I've put in a new battery, replaced the ignition coils/HT leads, new plugs, cleaned out the throttle body, new starter motor, cleaned and recharged the K&N, drained the tank and put in new gas but still runs like this:

I've got seafoam to run through the tank (I've read enough on here to know its the wonder fix-all) but as it's not UK registered yet, I can't give it a ride out.

Anything I'm missing before I pass it to the garage?

It is but it looks like it had been in there a while. I bought the standard HiFlo one but kept it in the box once I saw the K&N and cleaned it up.
I'll swap them over and check if any different. Thanks

Heard about a guy who had a bike shipped overseas and by the time it had arrived some wasps had made a nest in the airbox. Don't just inspect the filter, go through the entire intake tract and also check the pressure coming out of the exhaust.

***EDIT***

Also, some on this forum have successfully replaced the "non-serviceable" fuel filter on the fuel pump inlet, perhaps a look there would reveal something amiss.

On the right hand side where the throttle plates are is where the throttle position sensor is. Make sure one one of the solders have not come loose. I had that happen to me and I dont know how many times I pulled the fuel tank because i thought the problem coming from the tank.

Thanks for that.
I've replaced the K&N with the standard HiFlo air filter - no difference.
I've looked up past the throttle body and all seems well around the sensor and it's all in place but to check I'll have to take the tank off.

When I started it up this morning to check, when the auto choke is on it seems to run better than it does when it slows down the idle after a min or so.

There's also this wire that has been wrapped in electrical tape that comes down from under the tank into the throttle body and anyone help with this bracket that isn't fastened in place? I think I've bought the bike that Jack built....

Thanks again, Joe

Several possibilities I can think of. Fuel pump, or clogged fuel filter. Throttle position sensor. Accelerator position sensor(s). The accelerator position sensors tell the ECU the position of the butterflies. The Voyager has 2 of them. I don't know about the Nomad.

You got your fingers on it in the video. Take the back plate and idle solenoids off and look at that the wires going into the TPS. On mine, one of the three wires would lose the solder connection specially when the bike got hot and would start to act up when getting on the throttle

That metal bracket, is supposed to be holding the air filter backing plate on. It looks likes it's upside down, The wires could be the feed to the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor.

The mech said he couldn't find anything - it's still sputtering a little but nowhere near like it was.
I think it's been left standing and needs using. I had the tyres changed as the date codes were 10 years on the back and 12 years on the front...

I managed to take it out down some quiet private roads over the weekend and it actually drives pretty fine. If you give it a bit of throttle you can feel the sputter coming in but in normal driving (and as you'll all know with yours), it pulls really well.

I've ordered the Quantum fuel pump in case it's a 20-year-old pump on its way out and a Dobeck EJK so as soon as they're here in the UK, I'll fit and I'm hoping the EJK at least will smooth out any issues.

Thanks, Joe

Add a can of Seafoam to the fuel, and use premium octane petrol. It will help clean the fuel system if there is anything in there.

It may be just me me but the fuel pump seemed noise than mine like it's growling or something, i followed gadgets instructions and have changed that " non serviceable" fuel filter twice in better than 82000 miles.
