Death defying stunts!

Well, not the actual stunts, but there were 3 live bear in the woods less than 1/4 mile away, and I understand they really don't like us!

This is Top Dawg, Cathy & I last Sunday at the Tunnel Log.

Looks like you guys were having fun. Bet the temps were nice and reasonably cool in those mountains.

That's pretty cool, I've never seen a tree that big, living the sheltered life out here in the east and all.

That's pretty neat. I was in San Fran for spring break this year and we did the Muir woods tour. I thought those things were big. Redwoods are one thing but those sequoia are massive. I wanted to check them out but they are apparently many hours from SF and were not worth my precious little travel time.

Coastal Redwoods get almost 40 feet taller (like 300~350 ft.) but are nowhere near as big around. They are like toothpicks in comparison.

You really should see the Sequoia, because of that, and because they will undoubtadly be the oldest living thing you will ever lay eyes on. The oldest Redwoods are "only" about 2000 years old, but some of the Giant Sequoia are over 3200 years.

The General Sherman tree (they say) grows enough new wood each year to equal a normal 60 ft. tall pine tree. It's been alive 2200 years. At 34 feet thick, it's the largest of the world's 5 largest trees, 4 of which live in the Giant Forest.

Did I mention that when you stand in the bottom of King's Canyon, the rock walls around you rise up nearly a mile over your head? No, I don't think I did....but they do. It is one deep gorge, folks. Also, one of California's prime twisty motorcycle roads climbs those mile-high walls.

Dan would have ridden on the log. Actually, he probably would have jumped over it!
