STEERING HEAD NUT SIZE???

Hi Spirello,

I looked in my Clymer manual but no size listed, tried to measure it but coldn't get an accurate measurement, tried putting a socket on it but don't have anything that big...then I realized you have a 1600 and I have a 1500....duh! You might try going to this link and entering your VIN# and then click to parts diagrams...it lists the size on about many of the nuts.

Spirello, I don't think a standard socket will fit, check out the link below, maybe this will help.

I just went out and measured mine with a set of dial calipers. I got 1.418 inches which converts to 36.0172 mm.

It looks like a 36 mm socket.

Thanks for the link. I've had some wobble from the handlebars at 40 mph. I'm sure it is because I need to make this adjustment. Just have to go get the tools.

1 7/16" is just half a mm larger than a 36 mm socket. Nothing odd about it. Some metric/SAE sizes are close enough to be interchangeable, but not most of the commonly used sizes.

However, be careful that you don't let that extra half mm cause the socket to slip and round off the nut. It probably fits tight enough not to do that, but it's something to keep in mind.

well just think of it for a moment and determine this yourself using human logic, would a Japanese motorcycle maker ever use the American standard SAE inch size nuts or bolts ANYWHERE on their motorcycles made in their Japan Factory? you have 60 seconds to come up with the right answer, and if you get it wrong then you must be 1 of those Americans who believe the world only flies the Stars and Strips,,,,, omg I can't believe I'm having to post this

You really didn't have to post a holier than Thou Response. Nothing would the appropriate reply since you didn't add anything helpful

I think the fella that brought this 12yr old thread back to life with his strange imperial contribution might be Canadian anyway? Looks like a 1 post wind-up any how.
