Torque spec question

To my mechanically, technically, engineered type Nomadians (Nomadeers?) If a bolt is torqued positively in the northern hemisphere, is it negative in the southern hemisphere?

Just kidding, my real question is: when torquing a bolt, nut, etc. and using an extension or universal joint does it affect the torque reading on the wrench?

I am not sure about the extention but it will on the universal if it is bent, The nut will be less than torque spec.

Torque spec question

It shouldn't affect it. 50 ft lbs is 50 ft lbs, whether the torque wrench is 2" or 10" from the fastener. As previously stated, a u-joint or swivel socket may affect accuracy.

Torque spec question

The shorter the better, but it won't make much diff at typical distances.. Chances are your wrench isn't all that exact either unless it cost well over a grand...

In fact you can by extentions made for impact wrenches that will torque lug nuts to a spec, and they work pretty well. There is no need for a shade tree tech to use one once or twice a year though.

If you work on 20+ cars a day then that is a different deal.
