** You've probably noticed the DONATE button above

I know what your thinking......you've seen the Donate button above in the header and your wondering, "What the hell?"

Well, over the past two years, KawaNOW has grown to the point to where server, website and maintenance costs are a little more than I want to handle every month personally. I'm not complaining. I enjoy the membership and comraderie. But the time has come where I need some donations every year from members and non-members alike to pay for things needed by KawaNOW. So, I decided to open a Paypal account and give anyone a chance to help.

You're next train of thought is probably, "I hope KawaNOW isn't going away". Well, be rest assured that KawaNOW is NOT going away and there is no threat of KawaNOW ever going away or becoming insolvent. I've always paid the bills and will continue to do so. I'm just asking for a little voluntary help.

There is no pressure to donate to KawaNOW. If you don't want to donate, you certainly don't have to. And noone is going to hold that against you. However, if you feel you have gotten something useful out of KawaNOW and would like to donate once a year to the cause, it would be appreciated.

A 5 dollar, 10 dollar or 15 dollar donation a year from all the members will help keep the website going, the forum possibly upgraded and it will help pay for other items and expenses.

Again, keep in mind there is no pressure and noone will know if you have or haven't donated. All donations will be kept strictly confidential. Just feel free to help when you can.

Thanks,
Trip

I think it is a great site. I have only been here a couple weeks, but by far the best forum and overall group I have ever been part of on-line.

Count me in to support this forum!

Just curious about the details of the web hosting and if there was any way that we could help out with an alternate arrangement, or if you *must* go through a particular 3rd party to use the forums, etc.

Also, is it bandwidth charges or storage fees that are adding up?

I ask because I kinda know a guy who runs some webservers (among other things) ... :)

Thanks guys.......

Sam, when I started KawaNOW, I was able to have the KawaNOW website hosted almost free......I went along and paid the expenses myself over the years. Lately, that expense has increased although it is still the best deal I can find. Plus, there is alot of maintenance that goes into the website. But the money donated not only goes to monthly expenses, but it enables me and the staff to do some things and buy some things for the membership. If the money is there, I'll also look into upgrading the Proboards (Forum) software to give us all more features and enhancements.

The KawaNOW membership is now well over 1,000 members and it's time that we evolve a little. Yearly donations will help us achieve that.

Maybe Trip is trying to make good on all those free Nomads he's been promising :)

In any event, the site has my full support, now if I could just find the PayPal password...

this is a great site, I'd hate to see it go away.. You have my support. not sure how all this works, but is there a way for a "reminder" email for when it's been a year from the last donation? If time goes by as fast as this year with my new little girl, sheesh, it could be 3 years and I'd think it's only one!!! just curious.. Thanks trip.

Trip,

Done deal. I sent a donation for Custer and the server fund. You can figure out how to split it. ;)
