Cheap spare Key

Just thought I would pass this along. First off I don't know what a spare key is worth at the dealer or a locksmith, so maybe this is not worth the trouble. I wanted a spare key to keep tucked in my wallet and decided to ask the local hardware if they had a match. Turns out they did have something close. The blank is ILCO X121 DC3 made in USA. The cut matched up with the original, but when I got it home, I found the shank is slightly thicker and at first would not go in any of the locks except the gas cap. I filed both of the flat sides with a points file ( mostly just taking the plating off ) and it works perfectly. Total cost $1.15 and 5 minutes of my time.

I quit going to hardware stores and big box stores for my keying needs...I go here and have never been disappointed. Plus once it's cut, I take the key out to the bike and try it before the transaction is complete. I had a spare made for my MC just after I bought it...it has a round 'pop machine' type key (the PO had installed the Harley look-alike) and the bag key - less then 10 bux and lots of good conversation!

When I purchased my 99 it only came with one key. I did purchase a OEM key as a back up. But I do like the idea of your key you found. Many Thanks

I have 2 OEM keys (came with the bike) but I'd like to find one of those credit card keys to keep in my wallet.

I couldn't find any blanks here locally but I found some on Ebay a while ago. The Ilco X121 DC3 is another key blank that works on the Nomads.
