Funny Gas Station Moment

Last Saturday I was riding on Rt66 in Waynesville, Mo. I stopped for fuel at a local store. When I came in , another bike was already there. I heard the Attendant say "welcome to Casey's your ready to fill on pump 1 with the black Motorcycle." I then proceeded to turn on the pump and was greeted with the same basic message. As we where filling up, a guy came in with a Can-Am Spyder. I heard the attendant in a very confused voice say, "welcome to Caseys your ready to fill on pump 5, with the....(there was some hesistation ???) I guess Motorcycle type thingy." Everyone started to laugh out loud, even the guy on the can-am. I have to admit they are unique looking Motorcycle thingys.

I saw one on top of Wolf Creek Pass last year. They are interesting to say the least.

So they direct you to fill up at the pump? Am I missing something here? Are you pre-paying with cash or something?

I just ride up, scan my credit card, fill up, grab my receipt and leave without any interaction with the attendant.

Sometimes here in NY they do that but not very often.
It doesen't matter because I don't know what the hell they say anyway. 44 years in a LOUD wire mill.

revmrg - That was funny.

CJ- There is one gas station here in town that does that. Except they just say the number of the pump....ie I pull up to pump Number 4....over the PA they will say ' Welcome to the Dodge Store Pump Number 4 is ready for a fillup'. I'm thinking it is partly just something they do and partly to let each person know they SEE YOU WITH THEIR CAMERAS incase you are thinking about driving off without paying.....they still let you gas before paying...I know old fashioned ain't it.

Had a Spyer rider give me the wave recently. Wasn't sure how to respond... It's not a conventional trike. I wave backed b/c I'm that kind of guy. Odd moment though.

I guess here they are probably too busy trying to stop people from stealing cases of beer to bother with greeting gas customers. Also, maybe 50% of the customers would understand what the clerk was saying, anyway.

I haven't seen a gas station where you didn't have to prepay in 10-15 years.

Good story.

Met an owner of a Can Am. He said he gets a lot of various reactions from his bike; mostly "curious inquiries". He said he really likes riding the bike and that the bike feels very comfortable.

I did notice as he followed behind me that the Can Am's front wheel "hobbled" over a fairly rough railroad track we crossed -- which gave me pause as to the bike's stability. I mean... one of the front wheels actually left the ground for a moment. It didn't look good from my perspective looking through the rear-view mirror.

For reference; my Nomad didn't even seem to notice the tracks.

Now... before anyone thinks I am intentionally trying to trash the Can Am... know that I am not. I am just stating what I saw.

From the rider's perspective the bike might have handled quite well; and maybe is designed to handle rough road in that manner.

Anyway... I hoped to ask him about it but didn't get the chance since he turned-off another road before I could do so.
