I bet you she was going too fast for the turn and when she realized that, she stared at the curve instead of at where she wanted to go.
A typical case of panic, unfortunately I see too many of these happening even in Florida!
BTW - has your friend had any type of formal motorcycle training besides the BRC?

I agree with the scrape being caused by the crash bars... however that can be confirmed by looking at the bike for the location that has had the crap scraped out of it... that would answer that question.

Let us know if it isn't too late to do so.

Secondly, I thought it was intersting I couldn't see any tire marks from braking... or even an occasional scrape from a tire just hitting the pavement by accident. She must have laid this bike over without braking, and simply slid very smoothly into the ditch (which of course would high-side her when the bike it the dirt and a decling ditch).

Anyway... glad to hear she is okay.

Look where you want to go. hold your line. floor boards are expected to scrape at certain lean angles. It is very scary the first time it happens. Practicing makes scraping "normal". If you are familiar with "ride like a pro", scraping is normal during slow speed turns.

This is what is interesting to me....all her injuries (two broken bones in her wrist and the HUGE hematoba on her rear-end) were on the left side, but all the damage to the bike was on the right side. She never came off the bike, because a friend had to lift the bike off her pinned leg.

What made the scrape on the asphalt? Was it the left-side crash-bar?

Did she slide on the left-side or the right-side? I thought she slid on the left-side, then the bike went over to the right-side once it hit the ditch.

If she slid on the left-side, it could make sense that her left wrist was put under a lot of stress holding her body onto the bike... as her body-weight would have wanted to fall to the asphalt on the left-side -- thus her left wrist was used to hold herself on the bike, possibly causing the break.

Her butt bruise was likely caused once she hit the ditch and landed on it.

I would still like to know if the left crash-bar had the scrapes on it (causing that long, straight scrape on the road). If that IS the case, then there would be little if no damage to the left-side because the crash-bar would keep the bike off the ground during the slide. The damage on the right-side is explained due to where the bike ended-up.

We know that she slid on the left side of her bike, and you explained to me how she got all the injuries, thank you! I don't have a close up of her crash bar, but the guys there all said that mark was from her crash bar. Which also explains why the left side of her bike looked great! See pics:





I'll ask my buddy if she or her hubby looked at the crash bar to see if there were marks from sliding and let you know! Thank you!!!!

She's been riding 3 or 4 years now, like me.
