Biggest Performance increase for least $$$?

My '08 is still pretty much stock and I am wondering what suggestions you guys all have in getting the biggest performance increase for the least amount of money. I'm just curious what you all recommend (besides me dropping about 50 lbs!) :-/ ;) Moving from a Concours to the Nomad, I just feel 'sluggish' I'm not saying I don't love my Nomad, I do.... I just want to get a little more pep outta her. I don't expect it to ever behave like the Concours, of course, but I know she can be 'unleashed' a little more than stock.

You need the trifecta - pipes, intake and a fuel processor is what it takes to wake these bikes up. Any of them individually will not make much of a difference, each complements the other. intake = more air in, exhaust = more air out, fuel processor = more fuel to richen up the mixture made more lean by the other 2.

The holy vulcan trinity...open the intake, open the pipes, fatten up the fuel curve.

Fuel processor first (~$200), open up the right side intake with K&N filter(<$100), and then aftermarket exhaust. The fuel processor will get you noticeable performance increase, open intake will make you say "gaw-lee". Aftermarket exhaust isn't a must but will add a little more oomph.

I agree. D'baffle to save some bucks. You'll loose a few pounds when you loose the baffles. But then your wallets gonna be fatter. ::)

Yes the debaffle will help and cost is almost nothing. Fuel precessor will help but my MPGs suffered a bit.

Don't expect to get too much more out of your Nomad by doing the Nomad Trinity; you may fix the ping, but they are still big, heavy, comfortable bikes that's made for the road. When I did mine, the main thing I noticed with the ping being gone.

All that stuff will help, but after riding a Concourse don't expect a lot of difference in performance by doing those mods. They will definately help but its still a big sluggish bike in comparison.

The trifecta (I like that lable) will cost you about $750. It will result in a 5% increase in power. That means about 3 more horse power and 4 more ft lbs of torque at the rear wheel. That will not be the performance boost you would hope for. You will however get noticeable improvement in the bikes "drivability" and be able to use mid and regular grade fuel. The pipes will make the bike "sound" faster but they will do the least otherwise for performance.
If you skip the pipes and just debaffle then do a FI controller and a less restrictive intake set up you'll get virtually the same result for a third the cost.

I have stock exhaust, I put a Cobra fuel controller on last year to get rid of the pinging.
Last week I put Chuckster's dual plate intake system on the bike.

It runs great I was surprised how much of a difference the intake made.

Now I will adjust the cobra so I can run regular gas. The savings between premium and regular will pay to the Chuckster's system long before the riding season is over.

Dr. says I'm too young for that kind of mod for now.

I may be opening up a bag of worms here, but is there a fuel processor that more of you use than others on the market? I've seen a couple people mention the cobra processor but am not familiar with what else is out there..... Sorry, I'm just not too mechanically inclined but hope to be able to change that soon with a few mods and a lot of help from all of you! ;)

There are a few different processors, and some of them are the same units, just with a different name. Dynojet Power Commander is another popular one available.

From my personal experience I noticed a markedly different feel with different intake variations.

I have been running one of Joe's single plate adapters with a 360 degree open element filter. I tried putting a dogbowl on it to cut some of the noise and it seemed to really suffer.

The adapters for the hypercharger also seem to restrict a good bit. I used both the 'Thunder" adapter as well as the one from SCP.

The least expensive most noticeable difference will come from a single plate open element system. Then you'll need a fuel module and you'll want pipes.
