![]() ![]() ![]() Regarding the inquiry about floor boards: The rear-boards-down has been a symbol for paying respect for a fallen biker. It's been around as long as I can remember; but don't know if you could ever find anything on it. No harm, no foul if you forget... I often do... and to be frank... no one has ever asked about them when they are. ;)

Maybe some other riders have heard of the supposed tradition or remember the discussion. I tried to run a search without any luck. Now if I see macmac with rear running boards down and no rider, I will know. ![]() It's kind of like at an Army funeral where they mount the boots backwards on a horse, also known as the Caparisoned Horse. I guess bikers developed their own tradition.

Paying respect with your floorboards down, OK. I thought it was one of those hidden, gay signs or something. Kind of like those multi colored rainbows they have on their car windows and stuff or flying those multi colored wind socks in their yards.
I guess I've always left them down out of respect for my wife, or more probably because I'm to lazy to put them up.

I hate riding with the rear boards down.
When I take off my heel get caught by the front of the board. Maybe I just have big feet.

yeah well there is this book and it never did get written. Another is if you see a rider with HD broken wings it means someone knew it and thought enough of him to buy the broken wings patch.
It is said you don't buy the wings for yourself. The broken wings mean you dumped the bike and that damn near killed you. A little scratch doesn't cut it. I know about the boards down thing, but I prefer to jerk you guys around because it's more fun. ![]() TC may have big feet, but I ain't sayin' nuthin... because i have no need to try on a size 12 boot, anywhar's on my body... ![]()

If I stop at a light and have a bike pull up beside to talk or if I pull up to talk I will usually motion for the other guy to leave first. It eliminates any misunderstandings. If I pull up on someone to talk and don't motion I wait for them to lead off again. I'm not too concerned with who goes faster on a straightaway.

any way you look at it, like a fast neat looking car, our bikes are an extension of our ego. thats why we have chrome, fancy paint, loud pipes, ride the twisties fast, have hopped up motors, etc.. there is no etiquette, when it comes to showing off a little as long as you don't violate the law and some one elses space and safety. when i was younger, i would have had to race the guy. the only etiquette i have toward other bikers is don't violate their space , like tailgaiting, riding 2 abreast, and running off and leaving fellow riders.

Last summer I was riding my KLR650 thru Neward DE, temp was near 100 degrees and I caught every light going north. Behind me at every light was a tricked out FLH and he would shut it off until the green came on. Then would rev till it hurt and being behind my KLR with black plastic boxes and tail trunk would (I am assuming here) drive him crazy that he was behind it and not leading. If you know route 896 there you know that thru town you pretty much have to stay in the middle of your lane, there’s no room for error. Anyway, once out of the city proper he bolts pass me on the right letting me know who owns the street if you know what I mean. Saw him at the next light a few miles north, side of the road, bike wouldn’t start after shutting it down for a red light. Karma, it’s a wonderful thing sometimes.
