Question Trailer tire size /

When pulling a trailer with a motorcycle, does the tire size on the trailer, 8", 10", 12", make a difference. If so what. Any other info will be great too, like tounge length, ect.
Thanks for your time

I have been pulling a tow trailer that came from Harbor Freight. I use it to haul my camping gear. It has 12" tires and I have not had any problems. It actually pulls very well. My tow vehicle is a 2001 Nomad carb'd. Hope this helps.

The HF trailer I towed behind my Nomad had 8" wheels and it did just fine, it also sits lower. The main thing is to clean out the crappy "grease" that looks like Vaseline in the wheel bearings and replace it with some quality wheel bearing grease.

I use a "troy hauler open cargo" trailer, 10 inch tires and don't notice it bak there. Usually have 200-300 lbs plus weight of trailer. Use 2 tow w/1800 suk and acceleration and braking was absolutely no problem. Now have 1700 nomad but have not towed with it as of yet. Trailern is best thing since sliced bread if u have lots to carry. Do b careful about the extra length and do give more stopping room, passn room 2.

The 8" wheels work well for the trailers, if you look around you can find some really nice hubcaps that fit them. Ive seen some really nice styles of caps.

8" hubcaps for golf cars should fit.

I have the HF trailer with the 12" tires.
From the previous post it sounds to me like 8-10 or 12 will all work without any issues.

IMO it's a good idea to have the tongue length twice the width of the trailers tires.
I'm sure others have pulled trailers with less and can report having no problems with the trailer wanting to "wiggle" at higher speeds.
But I did extend the tongue. I've kept the weight on the hitch between 25-30 lbs.
And the trailer weight riding 2 up at about 350 lbs. This is one of those things where you will get many opinions.
What I've said is just that, my opinion.
Start off riding with the trailer empty and go from there.

Anyone have experience with the small, single wheel trailers (i.e. Pav)? Since I don't have a Tour Pack (and never plan to), I might need something in the future to haul some extra stuff around. One of the Pavs (or similar seems like it would be less cumbersome and flow a bit better.

I pull an HF trailer with 8" wheels and out-of-the-box tongue length and it pulls great. Whatever you go with, find a way of netting your cargo so that it doesn't shift in the trailer.

I found my Sears cargo holder on CL for $15 and the trailer kit for $179 less 20% coupon. As CJ said, repack the bearings.

This was one of the best investments. My wife doesn't have to carry anything on her bike and you know that "If Momma ain't happy......."
