I think it is the nature of the beast Joe, I get it on mine and it is tightened to specs and aligned okay.

The belt is very tight from the factory I backed mine off just so there is some give to it. It will still whine sometimes but not as much as when I got it. 26000 + miles on the bike now and belt is good no sign of whear. Also if there is any tar from driveing in a road construction zone that gets on belt or sprokets that will make them whine.

I did a little whine when Ma Kaw went from shaft to belt, but I got over it . . . I'm just happy to have one that's still shaft drive. I told my local Harley dealer that they could have my business back if they make a Road King with a radiator and shaft drive.

I'm with Mark on this one.
My shaft drive does not whine at all. I will never own a belt drive, air cooled, tube tire motorcycle as my everyday touring bike.

How many miles do you have on it now Chuckster? My 2010 Nomad's belt started to make a little noise after I got a few thousand miles on it. All the belt damage and asphalt and small rocks I dug out of the sprockets didn't help any either.
I tried a few different things to help it, but I only found one that works. Thats the spray Dupont mullti-use Teflon dry wax lube. Cleaning the belt and brushing it helps also, then you can check for stuff that doesn't belong in there too. I've even dug a few small rocks out of the belt cogs, and a bunch of stuff out of the back sprocket. Did I mention a nice 5mm hole all the way through the center of the belt too, or the top ribs of the belt tore up from stuff that went to the front sprocket and packed in there. Life with a belt would be a lot better if Ma Kawi put on a top belt guard too. My last bike was a shaft drive, that was much better!

The bike has just under 10,000 I readjusted the belt and whine is gone.. Must have been to tight, as the person I bought it from just had new tires put on before I purchased it.

Glad you got it fixed. Noises that your not sure of can ruin a good ride.
I've felt a few belts on new bikes in the store, they were all pretty tight. I run mine 5-7 mm at 10 lbs jacked up and at room temperature, that works good for me. Mine never gets that nosiey just enough so I can hear it at certain speeds under light acceleration. After I spray the Dupont Teflon Dry Wax on it, its quiet for a while.

I have the Motion Pro bets tension tool, picked it up local at Motorcycle Superstore.
They just shut the store down, I'm going to miss getting my tires mounted and balanced for $15.

Darksiders that loosened belt?
Anyone running a 195 or 205 car tire, and loosened the belt to get rid of the whine?
