performance mods
I,m sure you guys are tired of answering this question, but....
I just picked up a bone stock 07 1600 nomad. 9600 miles. I am not familiar with Kaws. I have noticed that there is not much available for the nomad. only 2 choices for pipes, no round air intake kits, etc. what are you guys running? I am lookin for the best combo on a budget. any help would be great. thanks Login or Register to Remove Ads |

If you go to aftermarket pipes and open the intake, you are going to need a fuel processor or it will run too lean. It already runs lean enough, but if you increase the air flow, you need to increase the fuel mixture. So I'd plan on doing the "big three" if you want to do it right.

Round intake idea from gadjets fix it page. That's what i'm running. Low budget.
http://www.gadgetjq.com/caddmankit.htm Thunder manufacturing sells adapters for a variety of air cleaner options. http://www.thundermfg.com/store/inde...oduct_list&c=8 But, as cactusjack said, you will need to do the big three to get any performance gains. If you only do the intake you will not need a fuel processor. I have a cobra auto tune to clear up the pinging that appears to be stock on these bikes, also, installed the caddman kit. No exhaust yet though. Many on here say that the dobeck fuel controller is the one to go with. There is a good write up on here somewhere from mac on here to set it up. Shouldn't be hard to find.

Here's what you need...
1) Chuckster's Customs for the intake. He makes them special for the Nomads. Great product, great price, and easy to install. 2) Doebeck TFI fuel processor. Great price (shop Google), easy to install, and set up instructions can be found all over this forum. 3) Cobra True Duals or Vance & Hines exhaust. V&H are louder if you like that, and have many options to adjust the sound. But, they have a tendency to crack on the rear pipe at one of the bends. Cobras are a bit quieter on normal driving, but wake up when you're on the throttle. I went with the Cobras for the fact that they are a little quieter under normal riding and I can go longer distances without getting a headache from the noise of the pipes. They look great and sound great... to me. But every person has their own taste on pipes.

thanks for the info. I know i have to add a fuel processor. was mainly looking to find out whats out there that is reliable and at a decent price. if v&h is prone to cracking, I'll stay away from them. although I did find a new set on ebay for less than the cobra. I already checked out CHucksters intakes. whats the difference between single plate and double plate?

I have the V&H Dual Baggers. I love the sound and have had no issues. But I also do regular maintenance, which includes making sure all bolts are tightened properly.

My 02 NOMAD is stock, except for a set of Cobra Exhaust's... Ran fine for 40,000 miles...and always turned in right at 42 MPG.
Then I took the air cleaner cover over to my drill press, and using a cheapy 1" hole saw blade, I drilled 5 ... One Inch Holes in the edge ( aprox 1/4 in in from the rim...leaving one inch between the holes...after doing a bit of edge buffing with a dremel cone shaped stone, I reinstalled the cover) With the cover installed with the holes "down" (you can position them any where in the 360 degree circle) ....Mine are almost impossible "see" and my NOMAD gained so much low end torque/power that on 25-35 mph mountain grades with switch-backs..I can now pull thru at the previous power levels ...one gear higher ... And in general my bike now gives me 47 MPG I seldom ride faster than about 60 mph..I like the two-lane macadame..isolated hiways of the country...so cant comment on top end power improvement...but had her up to 105 mph this summer out in the South Dakota Bad Lands Country...my Harley friends couldnt keep up ! (caution...the clutch is now slipping at low rpm-under power...I'm working on a "fix" for that problem) |

Hey bkjwalker - I have a 1500 instead of a 1600 but the deals about the same as folks said. I recetly made my own version of a right-side intake to compliment the Cobra duals and f1200 processor already on my bike when I bought it. Just sitting still and cracking on the throttle you could immedietaly tell it responded much quicker, ramping up the revs instantly compared to the stock intake which was like slow motion. This immediacy translated to riding too, with very noticibly faster acceleration and a glorious "twahhhHHHH" hotrod throatiness. My mileage is sh*t though, because I can't stop making that SOUND! Since the 1600 is essentially the same engine I presume your results would be similar.
But the real reason I wanted to jump into this thread was to say hello from a North Tonawanda native. Man you just don't see the name Tonawanda everywhere in this big old world. I've moved away since graduating high school in the 70s and don't get back much. But it's home and I just felt like I had to holler at you. Keep 'em rollin.
