Dino Oil

For those who are using Dino oil. What brand are you using? Are there any with additives to avoid like with synth?
Thanks for your time

using volvoline 10W-40 4 stroke motorcycle oil......on the amsoil web site they compare their oil to everyone elses synthetic oils and one standard oil.....so if they are that worried to compare their full synthetic oil to Volvoline standard oil, must be a damn good oil standard oil....

A great many of the folks here are using the Shell Rottella T 15w40 dino oil and the Shell Rotella T-6 5w40 Full Syn oils. Both carry the Jaso MA certification and are bargains in gallon jugs at your local Walmart.

Shell Rotella T-6 here, bike runs cooler and smoother.

I also had been using Shell Rotella 5w40 but found Petro Canada Duron-E Synthetic 10w40.
When talking about Rotella 5w40 or T6 being a full synthetic, I learned its a Group III dino=cracked base oil, so my advice is when using it, change it out as you would any other dino oil because it's not a synthetic

degreaser: All Synthetic oils are Dino oils. The "Full Syn" description is about which crudes they start with and "molecule synthesizing" thru the additional refining steps taken to cause more "homogeniallity" to the oil molecules present. Good oil (of which there are many choices in full syn, blended syn and regular), good filters and a regular change interval is more important than which type or brand of oil.
Personally I use Rotella T 15w40 in the white gallon jug ($12 US) and follow a every 6 months or every 5,000 miles which ever comes first routine. I've got 57,000 miles on my 07 and it seems to be working well so far.
The one comment I will make is that I tried a 20w50 motorcycle oil (brand to be nameless but usually $12 a quart) that I found on sale 4Qts for $18. I thought I would be smart and use a "real Motorcycle oil" but I found the heavier weight oil negatively affected my fuel economy and raised my cruising speed operating temp 12 degrees F. (I have a water temp gauge on my bike). So I do recommend that folks stay with the 30w or 40w high ends that Kaw recommends for oils in the Nomads.

Rotella T6 full synthetic 5w40 in both my Nomad and Goldwing. The reduction in engine noise in the Nomad is remarkable. My Wing has 92,000 miles and has been on Rotella for 60,000 of those. It also makes both bikes shift smoother.

Here's another vote for the Rotella 15-40. Its motorcycle rated, easy to find and is an affordable quality oil. Note that you'll find Rotella 10-40 in the stores too but it is not motorcycle rated. Even Home Depot stocks Rotella.
Motorcycle rated means it has a higher shear rating. This means the oil's viscosity does not break down from from being ground in the transmission gears...something car engine oil does not have to endure. You want to stay away from any oils with super lubricants added. These can result in your clutch slipping since it uses the same oil as the engine.

I normally run the Rotella T6 Synthetic
BUT I was recently shopping for oil and found Mobil 1 Synthetic on sale at Autozone for $12.99 per gallon.
so i bought 2 gallons for my next few oil changes.
I had been paying around $23. gallon for the T6 at wally world.

I used 10w-40 Amsoil for the first time this fall before putting the bike into limited use mode for the winter months. It was a bit pricey but I figured I would give it a try. I'm not racking up the milage some of the other are here so my oil tends to get changed out every year instead of by miles. Figured I would give it a try as prior to this I was using strait up 10w-40 oil. We shall see , so far so good. It did quiet down some of the rocks clunking around in the engine.

For the longest time I used Castrol Syntech 10w40. Changing at about 3000. Recently went full synth Mobil 1 10w40 Racing, and bumped the changes to 5000 or once a year at the start of the season.
