little tip for checking the oil level

Next time you do an oil change and you are certain you have the correct amount in, make a note of where the oil level is with it on the sidestand, I make a note on mine and with the nomad sidestand in place of the OEM voyager one, it is approx 3/8 of an inch above the high mark, with the stock OEM sidestand it is approx 1/2 inch above the mark. The odd time I check with the bike upright it is right where it should be according to the manual. Just saves you trying to keep the bike upright, and check the dipstick at the same time. If the oil level on the sidestand is at the high mark you should add about 1/2 litre of oil.

I may look at putting a very small rubber "o" ring on the dipstick where the high mark is with the bike on the sidestand, I don't see any reason why an 'O' ring would not remain in place, it would be helpful when you have clean oil in there as it is often hard to see the level.

Why not just file a notch in the dip stick, the "o" ring could for one reason or another move at some point and put your reading off.

+1 This is what I did to my Nomad before I got a jack that was easy to use for checking oil

Didn't think about that, will see about doing that instead, good point on the o ring.

Great Idea

This makes so much sense. Thanks for the idea. I'm about due for another oil change, so I'll mark my dipstick this time around.
