HELP! exhaust snapped
Alright guys so this happened yesterday......
20150507_162644.jpg 20150507_183921.jpg 20150507_165907.jpg ... Ya I know. I bought these pipes off a wrecked bike for 100 bucks. They had no name brand on them. They lasted me half a season. it's the second time the pipe has completely snapped. After the first time I welded it back together then wrapped both pipes with header wrap to hide the weld job. Now... like I should have done in the beginning. I'm going to purchase a new pair of true dual pipes either from Cobra or Vance and Hines... I know I'm going to be spending at least $500.00 but before I do I would like to get some input on both brands. Does either brand have any quality issues? Thanks again for your input.

First mistake was wrapping the pipe . That stuff just attracts moisture, and by the looks of the pipe it pretty rusty. It also keeps the heat contained in the metal and with all the hot cold cycles....... You notice where it broke again..... right where you welded it. The heat from welding makes the tube brittle. If you would have let it cool after welding and reheated it with a torch to normalize the metal it might have held. Sorry about your luck..

Ouch! bummer. - There ought to be more options for a classic than we've had for the Nomads, but either of the brands you mention have their fans. I think you'll be happy with either one.
I think V&H has been more customizable in terms of changing baffles and such.

If I had to replace mine I would go with Cobra
Like many others on here my VH pipes cracked. Had them welded and all is good. Knock on wood!

Doesn't look like there was any support either. I see a tab with a bolt hole that connected both pipes out in SPACE. I have no idea what's best for a Classic. If i wanted hard bags like in your other thread i would be all over a road killed Nomad and get all the brackets bags and rear crash bars to support the bagger style exhaust. But what ever you get needs full support or this is what happens anyway rust or no rust.

Time to call an order into Vance & Hines or Cobra for a new set of pipes or check online for a good used set. I do have the set I took off my 1600 but they are pretty heavy and would cost plenty to ship them.

Not sure if these are the stock pipes for your bike.

Thanks for everyone's help. I decided to go with cobra true dual with billet tip. I also bought the exhaust brackets from a nomad so they will fit securely. I paid $475.00 I also purchased the Nomad rear fender trim and top saddlebag brackets.

If you use the oem clamps you will need 10mm longer studs (m8x1.25) You can find them at your local hardware store.
