The fuel level sender unit is a seperate unit from the pump. Same side as the pump and a few inches forward. It is a square base plate.

Thanks for INFO -- I will have a look tonight as it has cooled down a bit. I will be seeing how one could service this sending unit shuld we have a problem.

By the way I ordered (2) Fuel Stainers and a Pump with an attached Fuel Stainer and believe it is at Post Office to be picked up after 6:00pm this evening. The shipping cost was fairly high and fixed rate so I made use of it by buying several items.

Now do I fix old Fuel Pump or just go with the replacement I have on hand from a low mileage 2008 Nomad that is same year as mine.

O'Joy my Iridium Spark Plugs for Nomad just arrived as well.

Decisions, Decisions,

Norther Dancer,

Ron

PS: Already put the Iridium Spark Plugs in my Goldwing and it has improved.

My Iridium Plugs for my ST1300 also came today

I got Suckered

When I first read Hammer's description I thought the replacement Fuel Strainer was the Small Screen at the Pump Intake. That is why I poised the question on how to clean the Fuel Filter.

So after Hammer's correction telling me to re-read the first part of his Post I then Ordered (2) Fuel Strainers and (1) replacement Fuel Pump with attached Fuel Strainer.

Well I received my shipment today and received just three of the flimsy intake screens which are very easy to clean and no Fuel Filter with the integrated Fuel Pressure regulator and one Fuel Pump Motor with two connection wires.

Back to the drawing board -- maybe I will just try replacing the Fuel Pump Motor hoping that the Fuel Filter which I have twice tried to clean is still functional and it is a faulty Pump Motor that is causing the Squeal.

I do have a low mileage complete Fuel Pump Assembly that I carry in my Top Case from a wrecked low mileage 2008 Nomad. I know that should my Original Fuel Assembly fail with this replacement Fuel Pump Motor I can switch it out with the unit in my Top Case as it is not that hard to do.

Norther Dancer,

Ron

Yes I certainly did Order from Hammers Links -- It was too nice tonight to work on Nomad Fuel Pump -- took my Goldwing for a Ride -- Will get up tomorrow Morning at 6:00am to see if the Pump Motor is the right type & switch it out and one of those fuel Strainers if they are the right type.

What do you mean by flimsy? I found no problem with the replacement screen at all, used it with the used pump and new grommet and everything is running fine now. IMHO, you are better with the new screen than trying to clean the old one. FYI, that is the fuel intake screen.

It is also possible that the new screen is less stiff than the original but the old screen has been immersed in gas quite a while so may be less pliable now.

If you find a better or alternative, let us know. It took me quite a while to find one that was an exact match for fit.

Hi Hammer,

I was expecting the Main Filter with the Fuel Pressure Regulator that the Motor Mounts too -- Instead I received the Fuel Strainers which are an exact replacement.

So I went ahead and changed out my Fuel Pump Motor with their replacement and the New Fuel Strainer -- I was able to flush the Main Fuel Filter in the forward direction with Gas/Air pressure and got some trash out of it hoping I didn't damage it.

When I put the refurbished Fuel pump assembly back in the Tank and on my Nomad -- low and behold the Motorcycle would not start -- No fuel Pump spinning up. I checked Voltage into Pump (None) -- connected Battery to the Pump via its Plug/Cable (Flash Direct Short). Checked all Fuses in the Right Panel and all OK -- My Wiring Print shows the Fuel Pump connects to Ground and directly to the ECU (Now I am worried) -- checked further to find a DFI Fuse that I at first could not find -- found it under seat by left frame Rail and there it was 15 Amps Blown.

Pulled my Tank again and I made no wiring errors and connecting the Replacement Pump Motor itself to battery (Flash - Shorted). I will be contacting the supplier you have found asking for them to replace it and ask do they have the Mail Filter Assembly that gets plugged up with dirt as well.

Lucky me in that I had purchased a complete Fuel Pump Assembly earlier from a low mileage wreaked 2008 Nomad just like mime -- so I installed this unit so I had operation this last weekend.

Thanks for sourcing this supplier and lets hope he has access to the Maim Filter Assembly also?

Northern Dancer,

Ron

I don't know what to say except the fuel strainer you ordered IS the main filter at the inlet. I did not touch the regulator on mine and I am not sure I recommend it so I am not sure what you are looking for there.

If the 2008 pump you got is good, I would use the new fuel strainer and stick with that anyway. That's what I did.

I have the Official Service Manual and it shows the Large Plastic Part that Mounts the Fuel Pump Motor and contains the Pressure Regulator as Item Number 11 on Page 3-8 and describes this as Fuel Filter on Page 3-9 -- I figured this to be the Main Filter and the Fuel Stainer is just for blocking the big stuff. This is what I was referring to.

Ron

Wink

Yes I am aware of that.

If you can find a way to open that sealed unit and re-use it I guess you can go for it. Once opened, you could check and see if Kawi just named that body a filter or they are just generally pointing to part of the assembly. I did not not feel the need to do that.

They don't point to the fuel strainer either. This might be because they expect to sell you the entire assembly anyway. The only parts available from Kawasaki are the assembly, the tank O-ring and the mounting bolts.

I think that's why I was looking for a simple re-furb option in the first place. Sorry I don't have all the answers.

Fuel Pump Supplier is shipping a New One

I contacted the Supplier explaining the shorted Fuel Pump and they agreed to quickly replace it with a new one. I asked them to test it first and if they had the larger Fuel Filter with the Pressure Regular in stock.

Haven't received a reply to that question yet.

Norther Dancer,

Ron
