Knocking from front on acceleration
Noticed lately that when I accelerate I get a knocking sound. Seems like it is coming from the left side right at the front. This is only when it is under load. If I pull the clutch in and throttle up, no knocking. Also after the bike gets warmed up it seems to decrease to almost going away. Or if it is idling and I turn the throttle no knocking. Only when in gear and accelerating. Any ideas?

My first thought would be it's pinging? Make sure you're using premium fuel.

When did it start?
Quote:
Sometimes Mine does that also. Did this knocking begin after you made the adjustments to the EJK? If so there is our first clue. I have found that adjusting the GREEN setting up or down 1/2 makes a big difference, This can vary depending on what gas I run. Have you tried some SeaFoam? Might be time for a good cleaning down inside the 1700. How about the Air Cleaner? I kinda neglected mine and at 26,000 miles took the K&N out found it was very dirty (How did that Dragon Fly get in there?) FYI - I consistently use the Mid-Grade fuel (89) One other thing you might try - the next time it seems to be "a knockin", Stop, shut the bike off and let the EJK re-find itself. See if that helps. It appears to me that when you start the bike, the EJK/Bully goes through a calibration process to best set itself based on the current conditions. Mine always seems to run better after the first restart after it gets up to temperature. Hope this helps in your quest to relieve your Knocking. Good Luck Mike Red_VRG |

I dont think its pinging.. Been running premium in it. I have not ridden it since I cleaned the K&N. Need to oil it today. It did this prior to adjusting the EJK. But the EJK was so outta whack who knows. I do notice it gets better after the bike does warm. And the volume of the knocking increases the more I get in to the throttle. My one concern is that it only does it under load. At idle in the drive way or at a light, I can rev it and no knocking. I will see what happens with the clean filter in place and play with the EJK little more. Thanks!!

I ran premium in my Nomad and it made no difference to the pinging. It would ping with any grade of gas. A fuel processor was the only cure. Either yours isn't working or its incorrectly adjusted. |

I would just take the EJK device out and send that ecu off to Ivan and get the flash done. I have had no problems of any kind since doing that problems solved.

Do you have a Big Air Kit? If so, the knocking is the valve train, which is normal.

What Ken said. I put a Thunder tear drop on my Voyager and after first ride i thought my motor was going to grenade. lol Oh the sounds that come out of the new open breather are something to get used to. i actually block off the top of the filter, to reduce the internal noise some what, with black duct tape. Only really hear it now on the Highway and under load. Which is 99% of the time after the IVAN ECU re-flash. haha

I also get this. Running premium fuel, even added an octane booster. Still get it.
Going easier on the throttle might be an option, but not one I'm going to take. First really open intake on a bike I've owned, so I am hearing all kinds of motor noise I never heard before. Takes some getting used to.

It is usually for the first 10 miles or so, then it settles down a bit and is not as noticeable.
