So...had a fire

Yowza. Bike had been sitting 10 days or so, figured id take her to go pickup my fishing license since it's perfect out today. Go to start and it just kinda clicks and lazily turns over once. No biggie, need a new battery probably anyway and i forgot to throw it on the tender. I walk away to go find my charger when i smell it...fire. boy ive never unbolted that seat so fast in my life! Looks like starter solenoid melted right through the battery (regretting breating in that smoke now). I maganed to blow the fire out (another smart move) pulled the battery and inspect the damages. Any ideas on what happened and where to go from here? Adding pictures shortly

Well, trying to start with low voltage, pulling alot of amps, you welded the contacts in the relay. Just clean things up, then start replacing scorched wires....theres not alot of damage there.
Most meltdowns are alot worse.....

That is a major design fault if thats the case. That should never be allowed to happen.

Loose/poor/corroded connections over time will cause this. Connection will get hot as you draw current thur it. This didn't just happen, it happen over a period of time. Fuse didn't blow as it wasn't a direct short or a over amp situation. Not a design fault either. just one of those things that should be checked every so often.
I see this all the time in house wiring.

Off season I use a solar charger, works so well I just replaced the original battery 2002. Downside was battery failed and ignition quit, stranding me on a trip. Always seemed perfect, will never use a battery that old again, my bad.

I luv my bike
