broken belt out on the road

I am curious how many have had a belt completely break out on the road and get stranded.

I have never heard of anyone on the forum having a belt failing completely and leaving them stranded. Even after the damage is detected the belt held up until a replacement was done.

Not a single time while workkng at the Kawasaki dealership have I heard of anyone breaking a belt on our bikes, I haven’t even heard of it in any forum I have ever been in. That belt is Carbon fiber reinforced and can be used even while damaged according to Kawasaki so long as the damage isn’t on the edge of the belt. You can have a hole in it and that passes their specs.

These belts don't break. If anything, they're over strong. Mine was adjusted far too tight when I bought the bike, and while the belt had sustained some damage (two thirds of the teeth were cracked part way through) - it was the pulleys that bore the brunt. The Kevlar belt had chewed all the teeth in both pulleys down to stubs.

Bike just kept on going though, and I only found the damage when I wondered what the squeaking noise was.

I have a little stone damage in the new belt now too, but I have absolute faith that so long as I don't leave any stones caught in there, and I have the belt tension on the loose side of Kaw spec, everything will be fine.

I thought the drive belts were carbon fiber on the 1700's. If so they are even stronger that the Kevlar! I read that they were carbon fiber on another forum just this week. They cost like they are gold!
