I'm a Dunlop American Elite user - I'm on like my 4th set and always get at least 15,000 out of them. I never run them to the cords and usually change them early either for Inspection or to go on a long trip.

That's about when I change. Thanks for the info. I'm going to try them.

Thanks,

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but no sense starting a new one.

What American Eagle sizes do I need for my '14 Nomad? I see a 180/65/16 (which I "think" is the right size) in both bias ply and radial. The Nomad takes a 170/70/16, stock. Assuming this is the correct size, which do I need? What about the front? I think mine should be a 130/90/16. Is the MT90/16 the same?

On my Voyager rear, I put on the Elite 4 160/80B/16. The speedo is within about 1mph now... If you go with a 180/65/16, your speedo will be even off more, probably 7 to 8 mph or so.

The 160 tire is a little larger in diameter than the stock tire and the 180 is a little smaller in diameter.

I ordered the Cruisetec 130/90/16 for my front but haven't put it on yet.

I've got 13000 right now on the Pirelli Night Dragons and plenty of tread left, probably get 16-18000 out of them.

So, what's the correct size for the Dunlop American Eagles on a 2014 Nomad? I'd like to order a set this weekend but don't want to order the wrong size.

Did you mean the American Elite 4 ?? they are the dual compound tires. Very highly recommended.

I guess. I'm getting myself confused. :) Where the heck did I come up with American Eagle? Yeah, American Elite 4 sizes for my '14 Nomad.

Thanks for the correction.

Greetings MonkeyMan,

Wiki states the OEM sizes for a 14 Nomad are:

Stock Front Tire Size 130/90x16 Dunlop has this in an American Elite
Stock Rear Tire Size 170/70x16 No Dunlop AE, but does have a 150/80/16 and a 180/65/16
150/80 is slightly narrower, but a little taller than stock. The 180/65 would be a little wider, but smaller diameter (shorter) than stock.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r16-180-65r16
As you probably are aware, the 180/65/16 is a very popular alternative for the 1700 Vulcans. FWIW - Personally, I preferred the taller narrower tire.

However, the Dunlop Elite 4 Touring comes in these sizes.
Front Tire Size 130/90x16 Dunlop has this in an Elite 4 Touring
Rear Tire Size 170/70x16 No Dunlop E4, but does have a 180/70/16
Which is both slightly wider and taller compared to stock.
https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r16-180-70r16

Also, another personal preference. I am not a fan of the center groove or rib on a front tire. For ME that would rule the Elite 4 FRONT out.

Hope some of that was useful.

Ride safe,
Smokier

Hey MBarr,

How are you liking the Metzler Front Cruistec? You should have some good miles on it by now...

Ride safe,
Smokier

smokier---Thank you for the research, my man! Impressive. Now I'm thoroughly confused. For a while I thought I was looking for an American Elite then I thought I was looking for an Elite 4. Now, I don't know what I'm looking for. :) Maybe I'll try a Cruisetec on the front. I need tires ASAP so I'll have to make a decision and order this weekend.

I ran the Elite 3s on my '12 Victory Vision and loved them. Sticky and got good mileage so I'm guessing the E4s will be even better. I had never heard of the American Elites until I bought this Nomad and started searching the forum and noticed these were getting lots of raves.

Spoke w/the local bike shop. Their tire prices on the Cruisetec and American Elite are about $150 higher than Revzilla but the owner said he'd look into things and call me this week. We'll see.

Greetings MonkeyMan,

I really liked the Metzler Cruistec rear. Although only 5k of miles before trading, it was performing well. MBarr can give us a Cruistec front report. The Dunlop AE was doing well for me up front.

Yes, local shops may charge more for their tires. They sometimes throw in mounting, balancing and disposal for that cost. Which, if you drag your own tires in and they charge you those add-on fees may end up being as much...

It was $150 more for the tires + $45/wheel to change (removing from the bike to back on the bike) or I bring my own tires in and it would be $75/wheel for the same.
