Won't Start in Gear (with clutch in and kickstand up)

2018 1700ABS. Will start in neutral but won't start in gear with the kickstand up and the clutch in. If I start in neutral, put in gear and drop the kickstand it kills the engine: so I know it's not the kickstand switch. Can this be the clutch box switch. There are two switches by the clutch lever: I assume one is for the cruise kill. When I meter them and pull in the clutch: on one I get and open to short and the other I have no change: always an open. Safe to assume this is my problem?

Yes, more than likely a safety switch somewhere. Have to be careful, on the newer bikes, these switches work in tandem with each other, I guess to help eliminate being bypassed.
I still find these things obtrusive. The clutch switch on the kickstand and the one on the clutch lever cause alot of headaches for folks.
Follow your repair manual....

Let me know what you find - my 2011 has been doing this for a while now - But I have just dealt with it and figured it would make it tougher for someone to run off with my bike . . .

My '15 will do this lately and I just let the lever out and pull it back in fast and its good. When I bought the bike 2 years ago I hit it with silicone lube spray and it clear up until just lately.

You hit the clutch lever with lube?

I lube mine also. But I like to use Graphite. Oil lube collects dirt and dust. ONLY ON THE LEVER PIVIOT
May not be the best way to do it but It works for me.

Silicone dries. Spraying the switches mainly.

I was experiencing a similar issue.. I took the safety switch off the kickstand and the clutch lever, so I could really get at it, and flooded the switch's with contact cleaner. They are an open contact style switch, and respond well to this treatment. Solved the mysterious cutting out problem I was having...
