Cheapest place to buy tire and best ones
Before I go running off to the Stealership, anybody got a lead on tires for a 1500 and/or what brand do you recommend?
Also has anybody upgraded the rear to say a 160/80-16 ? Thanks, Bill Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Cheapest place to buy tire and best ones
I LOVE my Metzler 880 on my Honda Sabre and had my Local guy order me Metz 880 for the Nomad.....Check around for a Local shop.. the are cheaper then the dealer and a GOOD one is worth finding,,,,,,My guy used to RACE Bikes,, he is ANAL about bike safty..I could get the tires a bit cheaper,, BUT the extra 20/30$ is WORTH it to me.. I know its not a New Kid at a dealer working on my bike,,,,,,,,... The larger tire,I have no input............... also PEOPLE LOVE AVONs as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,Rich

Thanks Rich,
I will look into them. Dennis kirk had in their Metzler ME880 section that you could go up to a 160/80-16 on the rear. Was just curious if it made a big difference or not. Bill |

Try this one. I just ordered a front tire from them Saturday night. It should be here Wednesday. https://www.americanmototire.com/ They were the cheapest I came across and a friend has ordered from them and has been very pleased.

I do run that exact tire. I also put that same tire size on Mac's 2001 Nomad.
Lots of guys run this tire on the 1500's, but the clearance to the welded seam on the driveshaft side of the swingarm is minimal. It varies a little from bike to bike, but normally about 1/16" to 1/8" clear is all you have with the 160mm wide tire. I wouldn't hesitate to run this tire, but do check the clearance once it's mounted. Like I said it's a welded seam, and welded parts will vary a little. |

I have been running the Metzler 880 since my last tire change out. It did help bring the speedometer more in line with actual speed. A good solid tire. I cannot remember the miles I had when started but know it is close to 10,000 and about time to change it out. One thing I have noticed is the wear of the tire. I can feel three distinct flat spots. One in the middle, and one on each side. I guess I have been riding the curvy roads more than I thought.

Thanks for the input guys. I will have to give the 160 some more thought. I would hate to mount it and have problems. Once its on its mine ya know. :'(
I will look into the sites posted though. Thanks again, Bill |

I think the chances of a problem are very slim indeed.

I agree the rear for the 00 to 04 Cadd has and installed the same on my 01 was a far better riding tire, one I could trust... If a bead of weld hits a file will make short order of that in a jiffy..
I would bet money it won't hit..
