Grasshopper backrest cudo's
I put a backrest on my bike this spring. Just thought I would pass along that it has worked great. Normally on a long ride my back starts to hurt. Not anymore. Just cruising and leaning back on the backrest is very comfortable.

Definitely a big fan of my grasshopper backrest as well. The highway pegs are much more enjoyable to use now.

I've been thinking about getting a driver backrest, seems like the highway pegs would be more enjoyable with one. Some of the ones that I have seen mount to the rear crash bars, passenget bar, and have long chrome handles. I don't really care for all of that, but the grasshopper rest looks great I think. I seems easy to install, doesn't sit back as far as others, which seems like it would take up some of the room the passenger has.
For $90.00 direct from GrassHopper, this seems like a great deal. Can anyone tell more about their experiences with the GrassHopper backrest for the 05' and up Nomad (non studded). Thanks, Brian |

There are plenty of posts here from satisfied members. Just look back.
I have one on my 2000. I almost never take it off unless my girl wants to snuggle up tight. One of the best things I put on. |

Just put mine on last night and rode to work today. Good fit. It is hot here today and my back got a little sweaty. Guess I will be making a sheepskin for the backrest to match my seats now. Can't wait to try it on a long ride.

Brian, I've only had my grasshopper backrest for two months now, but it's really great. The initial installation of the bracket takes about three minutes, and from thereafter you can just pull the backrest off if desired in two seconds. The mounting bracket is invisible under the seat and doesn't affect either seat in any way. For $100 shipped, I don't think you can find anything better. I know some have talked about the need to bend it a little since it's not adjustable, but I haven't modified mine at all. It's a great way to better utilize highway pegs as well, because you can take a lot more pressure off your butt by putting more on your legs. Switching back and forth makes riding a lot more comfortable for me.
Customer service is also great. I ordered mine online on a Tuesday evening, and it arrived at my door the following Monday. PC |

Got mine also this summer. Love it. But unfortunently I am thinking about the studded mustang seat with backrest. Here about a month ago when mounting on the bike my back foot had kicked the top of the backrest going over and stripped off the bolt which means i had to very very very gently center punch and drill into the remaining busted off bolt and then use an easy out to get it out. I was very nervous of drilling into the threading of the bushing in the rear fender. Luckly I got it out. Had to drink 3 beers before I had the balls to do it and planning a trip to sturgis this summer and dont want it to happen again exspecially on the long trip up there. My recommendation to anyone with the grasshopper backrest is to get a longer grade 8 bolt and us a washer and a lock nut at the top of the head of the bolt for extra stregth and so it doesnt come loose. Would not use lock tight in case it does strip off its hard enough getting out the way it is.

Just ordered the Grasshopper....sure hope it is as good as everyone says...although ryancooksey's comment has scared me a bit....I'm such a clumsy klutz at time, I'll probably kick into the next state. or maybe practice my high kicks to make sure I can get over it.
July 22 - Got it and installed. piece of cake. Haven't tested it yet but think it will just what the doctor ordered. Ken
