Sorry, Bad Info maybe WD-40

WD-40 appears to have changed. Since 1970 I used WD-40 for pretty much testing for vacuum leaks, as a fuel.

For so long as i have been here typing I have been telling guys to use WD-40 as a fuel seeking vac leaks.

Many guys responded that they had no meaningful change misting WD-40 into the intake.

I never understood why the results were so poor. The changes i was accustomed to were always dramatic changes.

Not so anymore. The other day i bought a can of WD-40 to use as fuel. This can has the smart stick wand.

I was wanting to run a Dodge 318 engine with it, testing for fuel related problems. The WD-40 would not run the engine at all, and when I found the real problem, which was a broken fuel line and fixed it, I tested the WD-40 on a running engine and got 0 results.

This means I have 0 use of WD-40 from now on.

It was a ok cleaner, a poor lube and no sort of rust preventitive before and if it can't test for vac leaks i have 0 use of it.

There are better cleaners, better anti rust chems, and better lubes.

The stuff doesn't even smell the same.

I use starting fluid for checking leaks, it works really well and you can notice the difference in rpm's right away.

Wd USED to be milder fuel than ether. I tend to use the smaller tool that will do the job over the largest tool that will do the job.

WD-40 it seems will not do any job any more.

Water Displacement formula #40 hence the name WD40
I used it just the other day to get the moisture out of my watch. I have no other uses either.

Once it actted like fuel.... My past experience has me baffeled. All I can think is the formula changed. The engine was with out fuel for a broken fuel line at the tank, but the engine refused to even spit.

Once the engine was running again, I tried the WD for effect and found 0 effect...

This means I used WD as a fuel when there was none, and ether worked, and again when the engine ran, and I didn't get squat. No more or less rpm.

In the day this would have caused eithere mean mix to race or a proper mix to bog down. I didn't get either, so nothing was burning or trying to...

Hold up a lighter and spray. If it don't ignite, they changed it for sure.

It used to be a very good camp fire lighter(very combustible) around any sparks.

OP, will do... later tonight i will light a fire by the garden to warn off raccoons, and will mist some over that.. In the mean time i will be seeking something else as a vac leak tester.

WAY OT:

I figure anyone wanting to know my whereabouts, would like to know i will be away from any and all sources of modern power this Thursday - Sunday. If something breaks send smoke

Don't use WD-40 on the action of a semi-auto pistol, rifle, or shotgun. It gums up when a little dirt or grime mixes with it causing jams.

They probably cheapened the formula for WD-40 and at the same time have increased the price. Now it's too expensive for me to buy.

I used some just today on door hinges. It stopped the sqeak. Another use for WD 40 is sometimes used for arthritis. Some people say it helps. Doc you might can add some info on this since you are in the Vet business.

At one time it worked well in getting rid of ear mites that were pestering my hunting dogs. Just a little spray in each ear did the trick.

I've heard the old wives tale about it being good for arthritis too. DMSO does work and works better. Ask any ole horse wrangler. :-)

It really worked on the ear mites. You ought to keep a case of that on hand Doc. Cheap cure for ear mites and you'll be the hero for all the dogs you cure.
