Unusual baffectomy question

I live in Myrtle Beach, SC and the have a noise limit on motorcycles. The police's car cameras can also verify noise levels. I need to find out if the baffectomy will cause me to be over 82Db?

I doubt that the debaffling would exceed 82db, when cruising along they are not that much louder, and even under full throttle accelleration they should still pass I think.

82db, a fart can be over 82db! That's really low.

Unusual baffectomy question

My '07 is debaffled and I seriously doubt that it exceeds 82 db. Our regional safety department has a decibel meter and I will ask to borrow it to run a survey on my Nomad. It won't be right away but I will get it done within a month or so. I'll post the results after I complete the survey.

Unusual baffectomy question

They ride Harley's there don't they? If a Harley is legal then you will definitely be legal. Debaffled Nomads are no where near as loud as a Harley.

My debaffled Nomad is still quieter than the stock HD police bikes that we have here.

Geez, I never saw this coming. Police enforcing a noise level. Somebody must have got sick of listening to the idiots with STRAIGHT PIPES or after market pipes with NO BAFFLES.

Stock Harleys are pretty quiet, just like a Nomad or a Goldwing. It would be unfair to say every Harley is loud.

I will be interested to see CajunRider's dB results. That should answer a lot of questions around here. Cajun' can you get someone near you to test a UB, and Stock? Or any variation you can get an example from. What a great opportunity for some "sound" facts. ;) pun intended.

Unusual baffectomy question

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/713/47...gislation.aspx

In this September 2009 article, the AMA cites this current legislation: "under the SAE J2825 standard, decibel limits range from 92 dBA at idle for all motorcycles, to up to 100 dBA at certain RPMs for various motorcycles, depending on the type of engine."

I think most of us would agree that loud pipes in general aren't so annoying as much as how those loud pipes are used. For instance, in city streets or neighborhoods, I keep acceleration noise minimal, and I don't rev the pipes at stop lights. (I find my strong idle gets more compliments anyhow) However, on regular occasion I will see other bikers unecessarily accelerate when passing pedestrians or other bikers, or show no reverence when passing through a humble neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon. I like loud pipes but understand lots of people don't, therefore try not to present that already stereotyped biker-arrogance. :-[

Well, I forgot to mention that every tunnel or overpass is fair game though.
