Drive Shaft Boot

I just noticed cracks on the drive shaft boot on the 2006 Nomad. I wonder if this problem is premature? The bike spends most of its time in a garage and only sees daylight when it's ridden. It has about 23,000 miles.

You don't have any gear oil accumulated under the boot? I was told that allowing oil to remain there will break down the rubber and cause it to crack.

Drive Shaft Boot

Mine has had small cracks appear for the last few years, its getting worse very slowly, Im just keeping an eye on it and will replace it one day during a swing arm service. But that probably won't be for another couple years.

As far as I can tell there are no cracks in mine with about 53,000 kms on the bike.

Mine too ::) 06 as well. Seems around 18 years to early if you ask me. The plan now is to replace it at the next swing arm service, and till then to tire slick it with Armoral Tire Shine/Cleaner, in hopes to feed it.

I noticed small cracks in the rubber within about five years on mine.

Drive Shaft Boot

My drive shaft boot was cracked as well. I noticed it at around 28000 miles and pulled the shaft at 34000 miles and was surprised to see the pitting caused by moisture and general crud. Repolished the drive shaft and replaced the boot. Knowing that now, I would have had it repaired sooner. If you can't keep the moisture out, then it is a recipe for future problems. jb

I had to replace mine at 25000 miles. It was almost in two pieces. The job really isn't that hard, especially if your are planning on lubing the swing arm and driveshaft.
