Probe Examines Calif. Race Crash

Ok discalimer up front.... This is just My own humble opinion.
I feel for the families of the people who were killed, it is a tragedy.

You have to have seen the video on the circumstances of wreck..... then form your opinion.

Does anyone else wonder what kind of education and raising our kids are getting where they think standing on the track of an off the road race is ok or even close to safe?

When they initially reported it yesterday they were reporting the crowd ran down and started throwing stones at the driver after he crawled out of his truck.

AND how did we get to the point in our society that sueing someone else for your own stupidity is considered the right avenue and first thing discussed?

Thats like a man getting his hand bit off by an alligator and sueing the place because no one told him he shouldnt stick his hand in the alligators mouth.... Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Well of what I seen of the news report , the crowd was to close to the track to begin with , so in my opinion the driver was not at falt the crowd is and if they do sue the driver then the driver needs to sue the crowd for wrecking his truck . There isn't a cure for stupidity.

A young woman from Las Vegas was killed and her sister was injured at this race. Her sister and father were on the local news tonight. Right after the report the Co-anchor asked the other co-anchor, in an accusatory tone, "will the driver of the truck be charged"??

I came somewhat unglued, they were on the F*cking racetrack!!!!!!!!!!!! The other co-anchor assured her that that the driver of the truck (RACE TRUCK) has not and will not be charged. No Sh*t.

Don't get me wrong. It's a tragedy. 20 years old is to young to die while you're out having fun. However, it could have been easily averted if a little common sense was employed.

Back in my younger years I raced on road courses and almost hit a spectator during a time trial. He jumped the fence and was taking a short cut across the track. Fresh brakes, tires and an alert driver (me) saved his life.

I guess it comes down to personal responsibility and a little common sense. Seems to be little of each for quite awhile now.

Unfortunately, this will be the end of dessert racing. Except in Baja. You can't sue anybody in Mexico.

Any spectators should have been no closer to the track than 1/4 mile. And at that, higher above it.

It's ridiculous. I watched the video, and those spectators were waaay too close to the course. If it isn't the individual spectators who were negligent, it is the promoters for not having adequate barriers separating the crowd from the course. It is not the driver's fault.

"There was no crowd control" the commentator said. What a foolish statement. Of course there was crowd control; it is called 'common sense' and 'self-control'. I agree with you all: Personal responsibility and common sense are far too rare today.

All I saw was a little cleaning of the gene pool. We need more. If you're dumb enough to stand that close to the track...might as well change your name to Chum Lee.

People were so close it's amazing with the uneven road and at the speed they were going that they could even drive between the crowd that was on both side of the road/track.

Something similar happened here in West TN a few years ago. The promoters had roped off an area. Car went out of control killing 2-3, injurying several others. Spectators won law suit against promoters for not having enough area roped back. Sued the driver too not too sure of that outcome. This was a just muscle cars going in straight line ...not racing...just revving up their motors and laying rubber etc....This was almost in the middle of the town as part of some kind of festival.
The driver was charged with something about failure to control his vehicle can't remember exactly how worded.

There was one lady in the crowd with 2 small children..who just moments before all this happen moved herself and her 2 children back further away from the ropes. In a TV news interview she said she just felt even with the ropes 'it was too close for comfort'. If she had not moved back with her children when she did they would have been hit.

Clearly they did not have enough area roped off but as the one lady did common sense must prevail. I think that was the end of them having that as part of their festival.
