Winter Oil when temp is below 50 Deg F?

Normally I ride until it gets to 32 Deg F. Mainly back and forth to work 16 miles each way. New years day this year it was sunny & 14 Deg F so I rode 15 miles to start the year off right. Man was it Cold. Last winter I used 10W40 oil and I think I will use Shell Rotella T 5W40 this year unless there are better options.

Winter Oil when temp is below 50 Deg F?

You mean to tell me the temperature gets BELOW 50 degrees in some places?????

I joke...it's in the low-mid 30's when I ride to work in the winter at 06:15 AM. Of course, the ride home is 60-70 degrees, even in December and January. That's why we live here.

Winter Oil when temp is below 50 Deg F?

I ride here until as late as possible, its usually in the low 20's or less when I finally park the bike. I use the same 15W40 Rotella all year round, although you could use 5w30 in the cold season if you choose, and change back in the spring.

It gets in the low 30s here in the Winter. 110s in the summer. Mobil 1 20W50 works fine year round.

And here I thought it was because of the 118 degree summers!

I only use 10W-40 full synthetic. Works for me and I ride year round. Yes it does get cold in north Alabama and we have light snow also. Gets very hot also as this year we had several days of 100 plus.

Scott, I've seen what you Arizonian's do when its in the 30's. You bundle up like we do when it's -20. Last time I was in Pheonix there was a light frost in the morning and I was walking around in a short sleeve shirt and everyone else had their parka on.

Back to the original post. Either the 10-40 or 5-40 are good enough.

Winter Oil when temp is below 50 Deg F?

Goes below 50 sometimes in the summer here. Never even considered changing the oil because of it. Sheesh! I'd have to use one oil in the morning and another in the afternoon. Not me! Below 50 is definitely NOT the defining characteristic of winter. Independent of external temps, I use 10W40 until the roads ice up (winter) and then put the bike away until they thaw (spring).

Winter Oil when temp is below 50 Deg F?

I ride unit 32 Deg F rode last year at 14 Deg F. Sheesh read my post.

With 10W40 in it at 40 deg the engine makes more noise than when its warm outside.

Was just wondering what everyone else did.

Sorry I asked.

I ride at below 0 but on a sled LOL

That is a sled with a engine on it. I have been thinking to add 2 paint rollers where the swing arm and rear tire are now, and making a tread for Nomad winter use. With a ski on ft I can right?
