Revisited..Krytox 240C for final and driveshaft

Dupont replied and they forward all the inquires like mine to a Krytox distirb.. that sales types of grease to Nascar folks and all that implies.. He was kind enough to give me a call and said the 240AC[AC stands for aerospace applications and Mil specs.] would work fine/excellent and actually an over kill and $$. He would also recommend GPL 217; which is a little less expensive and has a higher pressure load rating and temp.. however those loads and temps would never be seen on our drive shaft/final applications..extreme like nascar; etc..if you are interested and want any product/info.. contact Geoge Slebioda at Moroil.com or 704-796-0538.. be warned this stuff is exspensive; but bullet proof or Nascar wouldn't use it. According to George only one Nascar dude gets it free and that's because he is sponsered by DuPont. Note: I have absolutely have no $$ benefit from Moroil; just know Krytox is an excellent product and most people don't/can't use it because of the $$. However if few folks that live near to each other and bought a tube together and the product lasted as claimed; heck no spline failures; repeated lubing cut down; labor cost; etc.. Also he says if I know any machine shop folks he sales a line of cooling; etc.. lubricants.. just food for thought and said I would get back with ya...

Ive never heard of that particular product, but according to their specs its a high grade synthetic grease. If you have it use it, it would work well in that application .

The driveshaft was just slightly starting to show the light rust condition. Almost sure the swingarm and driveshaft never attended to before now. Going to use Mystik6 on swingarm; but was wondering about the Krytox on splines for driveshaft and final. Suppose to be the top of the Line for grease lubes; but there are about 20 different Krytox's. Got a call/email into DuPont Technical; but that may take long time for response.. Know a lot of you folks very sharp on many things. Thanks in advance!!
I've brought that up before. Krytox® is very expensive, but should last a long time. Nascar teams use it on their drive shaft splines and it's used on the space shuttle too. Makes synthetic look like candle wax.

It is high temp? If I remember correctly the "book" suggests high temp grease on the splines.

You can put a propane torch to it and it it won't burn. I think the point it does start to "burn" is around 750˚. Much higher than any normal grease. You can research it and get the hard numbers. I just remember watching a video of a guy putting a hand torch to it and it didn't light up melt or burn. Can't do that with normal grease. I've also read on a BMW forum that Nascar guys say it lowers the temp on the splines. How they know that accurately, I don't know, but it was over 100˚.

If the Dupont rep gives you some samples to try, I certainly wouldn't turn him down. It sounds like a good product, probably overkill in our applications, but if you have it use it.

I would never pay that kind of money for it, but if I had some for free I would certainly use it.

Most people find the Honda Moly 60 to be good enough. Funny thing is, Honda's maintenance requirements for the shaft aren't as rigorous as the Nomad. I wonder why? A friend with a Gold Wing said something about every 50K miles?
