Brake pad poll...

So, I've seen a lot of brake pad threads lately. I figured, why not make a poll to see what everyone is using. I'll be needing some in the future, so I might as well see what's being used. I'm leaning toward the ceramic pads from Sixity. I still have the originals on the bike now... 27k miles.

What I find interesting is about 1 year or longer ago the brake pad of choice on this forum was Kawasaki OEM pads.

Still my choice although I haven't tried any other types or brands.

I'm running the sixity ceramics on my 03.

So far so good. They've held up much better than the EBC sintered I had on before. Those didn't last a year.

I voted for the Sintered, but may try the Ceramic. It'll take a while, because I still have a full set of the EBC sintered pads setting on the shelf for future use. I don't have any complaints with the EBCs, just willing to try something different.

When it comes time to change mine I think I will stay with the KAW OEM pads. I have 20,000 miles on the factory pads and they still look good.

Just changed my rear OEM pads with 33,000 miles. Still had a few thousand left on them.

I assume the best way to determine when they should be changed is the thickness? How tick/thin is the best time to change?

I have 22k on my bike but I doubt mileage is the best barometer.

I have always been under this guideline:
replace the pads when the friction material is below 2mm

You can't go by miles because of varying road and riding conditions and everyone brakes a little different.

Mileage is one indicator if you do a lot of road trips. If you do a lot of city/town riding the mileage will be much less.

I have started doing like Fred and Barney of the Flintstones. I just drag my feet now. Found that the soles of my shoes don't las t nearly as long as they once did.

I don't like the prices of the oem pads here, I can get all three sets of Sixity pads shipped for less than one set of oem.

Sixity looks like the best deal with some really good reviews.

Last year I installed EBC Kevlar Pads on the Front and Shoes on the back of my 800 and the braking was much smoother. I did order all Kevlar Pads for our 99 Nomad and are waiting to be installed and will post when installed. -r-
