Sept. 10th Trip to NYC, Gone Bad

hello to all,

unfortunately my first post on the new forum isn't a good one, but i thought i would share it. my "partner" (work related only) and i decided to take a day trip on the bikes to ground zero on 9/10. it was a beautiful day and we had a great time, amazing to see (couldn't really see the memorial yet but it was nice to pay respects otherwise). well on the way home, at around 2200, we had to get off 95 in connecticut to get fuel. we were each in our own lanes next to each other waiting at a red light. along came a guy in his pretty benz and rear ended/tapped my buddy. not a huge deal, small scratch. i pull off the side of the road and go over to the guy who was obviously intoxicated and told him to put the car in park and shut it off, which he did. i then called the local police and gave them his plate. went to stand on the side walk and the dispatcher asked me for the license plate again so i stepped into the right to look at the front plate and he peeled out sped off and clipped my leg. we got his plate needless to say and we know who it is but my leg was banged up/not broke. i didn't want to go to the hospital far away from home and have my bike towed. it took me a while to get home due to pain shifting etc. but when i did get back at like 0200 or so i had to get checked out at the hospital, it was killing. anyways sorry to go on....as you can see i have some time on my hands, i have been out of work since. did some ligament damage/fluid in the knee. just thought i would pass it along, you never know what can happen and we are both pretty street savy people that were well aware of our surroundings but things happen sooo fast! but the bikes are fine :)

As long as the bikes are fine. I mean, as long as you're fine.

Sorry to hear that happened. Reason #57 why I'm glad I don't see the East Coast anymore.

Looks to me like that is hit and run, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, driving while intoxicated and what ever else you can have him arrested for.
Throw the book at the asshole.
Hope you heal quickly and completely.

Bad news but glad he did not do even more damage. Let us know if they get the SOB.

You said he was driving a benz? Well then get a good lawyer and sue the a$$hole for every frigging penny he has! Hate to stereotype but maybe it will teach him a lesson about responsibility!

If it were me... I would be driving a Benz (with some slight damage) before I was done with this guy.

I am not a sue-happy person... but that is assault with a deadly-weapon... among other charges.

Examples need to be made, and I guess it will be his lucky-day.

Glad to hear no one was hurt beyond repair.

Maybe you should have asked for his keys when he shut the car off? I know - hindsight. I am glad things weren't worse. This could have gotten nasty in a hurry.

Problem is, asshole parks his car at his buddy's house and lays low for a few hours, sleeps off the booze and there's no way to prove his BAC.

you have his license plate, I would get the plates run and get his address, find where he works and then see where the law goes. I would let him know I know about him through his wife or kids, let them hear what his guy did and they heard from you. There could be worse things than getting busted for for DUI,

I am glad you will be alright, and you didn't get stranded by him hitting the bikes.

Really sorry to hear about the mishap. Be difficult to get him on the DUI as CJ stated. Your word against his. Lesson learned, never get in front of a drunk driver.

Thanks all for the support I actually have some more info...turns out we got who it is comes back to a construction company/owner (listed online as worth 1.5-2.5million and he has had "multiple" dui arrests...unfortunately he can't be charged with dui since he wasn't caught that night but can be with leaving the scene injury resulting. as for taking the keys he didn't have a key ignition, even if we took them i am sure the car would start, for example my acura is keyless and will start when the key is in the "vicinity" it will also move several hundred feet without the key as long as the car hasn't yet been locked after shutting it off. so who knows...i technically hadn't stepped in front of the vehicle yet he swerved to go around my buddies bike in front of him and clipped me with his front quarter. oh well, sounds like i may have some bike upgrades available in the future....thanks again :)
